Remember when Figma Dev Mode was free? It was so easy, so good to send files for handoff when I was president. Now they ask for money. It’s bad. So bad. They want $45 a month when engineers just want to see spacing values. This engineer came up to me, big guy, strong guy, tears running down his face. He said “sir,” he said “sir, what they’re doing is disgusti

I ABSOLUTELY LOVE MICROPLASTICS RAAAAAAAAA

the provenance nightmare aside, i’m not particularly concerned with Galileo. the gen AI junk will become the new baseline, but it’s not stripping designers of their value like the doomers make it out to be. our value does not lie in creating settings screens. usegalileo.ai/explore

a large part of design is relentlessly fighting to reduce cognitive load. pushing back on ideas that muddy a product, cutting existing things that hold a design back, deprioritizing irrelevant info. AI is a total pushover, which makes it particularly shit at being a good designer.

designers are editors, not yes-men.

Totally with Ю :questified:

@samhenrigold I agree. It is, just like other recent stochastically suggestive software, a mere reproduction of known patterns. Companies looking for quick reproduction of known patterns might benefit from it. This alone does not make good design. In fact, UX is largely still pretty much user-hostile. Such an "AI" does not solve this problem. It's more of a different way of googling. It may have a place at early project stages, where an overview about common patterns is needed.

how, exactly, does it expect me to do this

@samhenrigold go to the Apple Store 😭

(Word is that the 1.1 developer beta adds the ability to restore from a nearby iPhone like the HomePod and Watch)

i love how delusional youtube is, putting shorts in my subscription feed on my television. there’s nothing I love more than watching short-form vertical video on my very non-vertical TV

@samhenrigold and with framerate matching on, your tv can show a black screen for 4 seconds every 10-second short ✨

Григорий Клюшников

they should play several shorts side by side to make most use of the horizontal screen

ngl it’s tricky to do my job in the vision pro
- colors don’t look quite right when mirroring Figma
- context switching between my desktop and an iPad app (Safari) is mentally tiring after a while
- i rely on a lot of desktop apps and having them confined to a window is a shame!

sam henri gold

who are the people snacking on fig newtons. show yourselves.

Watching the horrors unfold

@samhenrigold 👋🏻
I don’t eat the Newton brand anymore (additives) but Nature’s Bakery has a really good plain fig bar, plus some flavors like blueberry and raspberry. Some nostalgia eating them but I also still think they taste good.

i think the biggest issue with developing for the vision pro is the enormous pain in the ass 3D content is if you’re not super deep into it already.

idk what the solution is. better asset libraries? letting people create models programmatically rather than learning Blender?

Michael Steeber

@samhenrigold Better tools. Blender gets away with being Blender because it's free. There's no powerful 3D tool with a UI as approachable as any 2D design tool. Spline might be getting there, but it's web first

sorry if this is a bit of a personal question but regarding the 2010 CeeLo Green song, which version do you all prefer?

i made lunch with my vision pro on using @crouton and, in retrospect, as good as the passthrough is just…don’t use a kitchen knife with something opaque over your eyes. that was a really stupid thing for me to have done.

sam henri gold

it was only as i was waiting for my vegetables to finish roasting in the oven that i thought “oh that could’ve gone wrong in so many different ways”

@samhenrigold I don't really get what's the point of that Vision Pro. You can do the same with a way more comfortable iPad

sam henri gold

btw the twitter app runs at the same level as the mastodon app (ipad compatibility mode) and they did *not* feature twitter in that list 🤭

@samhenrigold so.. you let the compiler do the loop for you :)

On the left, large, colorful headphones and music elements flow towards a woman on the right, who's dressed in casual 2000s attire.
