« Tout ce que l’on fait et ce que l’on pense est défini et contrôlé par les médias. Ce sont eux qui définissent notre réalité. Et c’est la raison pour laquelle nous nous trouvons sur une voie rapide au bout de laquelle nous attend une récompense darwinienne collective : l’extinction de notre espèce. »

@ploum Dans ce monde #technocapitaliste ou plus rien n'est gratuit qu'est ce que le Japon a promis au Danemark pour son arrestation.

The Malleable Systems forum ("software as easy to change as it is to use") is doing a Jam with a twist.

Challenge Problem: Fearless Extensibility

forum.malleable.systems/t/chal

I have issues with this direction. Primarily: don't we already have this? Isn't Emacs fearlessly extensible? Firefox? Wordpress? Unity?

When you foster fearlessness, the world just piles on more moral hazard 😂

Still, should be fun! I'm getting ideas even as I type this. Thanks @jryans!

@akkartik One criterion to take into account is the range of use cases covered by a system. The smaller it is, the less reasons there are for fear. Browser extensions can't ruin much outside of the browser, for example.

@akkartik @jryans Oh cool! I'm going to start thinking about this right away :mac:

Sailed passed the gorgeous village of Klemtu to find some connectivity so we could let our relatives know that we're still alive. The place is tucked between massive mountains, it must be quite a sight to behold in the winter time.

This year’s Our Networks! “Does not (cloud) compute”— think, local first, permacomputing, solar servers, and exploring collectively what collaborations and online presence looks like when a network is optional.

We twice waved farewell to Sitka. A few hours after untying the lines, the engine that normally cycles water through itself to cool down decided that it would not do that anymore. The problem appeared to have gone away after some tinkering, only to return further down the coast, precipitating an emergency arrival in some questionably-sheltered flies-infested inlet hidden past but a few jagged rocks that the ocean breakers have as of yet unsuccessfully softened.

@neauoire I hope you've solved the problem by now. Does that engine have a heat exchanger between raw water and coolant?

We haven't come across any connectivity for a while. In these secluded days, I am reminded of a passage from one of Thoreau's journals that reads the inscription on a Swedish inn:
"You will find at Trolhate excellent bread, meat, and wine, provided you bring them with you!"

Jens

@neauoire wait you don't mean Descartes though? I mean I know of one philosopher who went here and thats him (the guy that died here from the cold or something) - did Thoreau go to Sweden too at some point?

Meteorological happenings tend to be extremely camera shy, or straight up lethal to the camera itself, but a few days ago, we have seen the most beautiful solar rings(circular rainbows, sun aura) and were able to capture them on camera just as they appeared above our sail.

They're hard to describe, and in still photos it looks oftener like lens flares, here's a little clip of the effect.

@prahou awesome! is it using the sdl backend?

ive been thinking it might be fun to make a library for running programs in the framebuffer, accessing /dev/mouse and /dev/keyboard for input and whatnot

Tomáš

@mostlypat yep, sdl magick! Now if I could only figure out how to use a drawing tablet with the console 🤔

Heading south, we can almost feel the summer warmth now. We had to make a fire last night, and we're still sailing with snowpants, scarves and tuques. Next time we want to escape the heat wave, maybe we don't have to go so far..

Sailing in Europe sounds really nice, you sail for 3 hours and you're in a different country. In the North Pacific, you sail for 3 days and you're still in the same fjord.

@neauoire your imagination about EU a bit far from reality. Here you can find both -- short and long -- distances between countries.

planeth

@neauoire hmmm... 3 hours with at least 25knts tailwind, I'd say :) But yeah, it's amazing how you can change landscape within a 48h hours navigation. Being based in France is a blessing in that part! Very central ;)

@rolltime Outage limited to the US east coast.
Seems resilient from over here… One region of one CDN can go down without dragging other parts of the net down with it.

I've had this idea in mind for a while of a sokoban where you program your character's actions in advance.

@neauoire ooo I've always liked mechanics like this, the board game Robo Rally comes to mind!

@neauoire it’s like your Markl or Blindfolk!

Anyone interested in doing a catlang(forth, factor, mirth, kitten, etc..) gamejam that spans this month and the next? 🐱

@neauoire Would be fun to do a pure uxn rom jam as well, to encourage more roms! Maybe it's only me but it feels like there has been a lot of emulators but not as many roms being worked on?
