@akkartik One criterion to take into account is the range of use cases covered by a system. The smaller it is, the less reasons there are for fear. Browser extensions can't ruin much outside of the browser, for example. @sophie hey sophie! It has been a long time since I've seen your name, it's good to see you on here. : )

Sailed passed the gorgeous village of Klemtu to find some connectivity so we could let our relatives know that we're still alive. The place is tucked between massive mountains, it must be quite a sight to behold in the winter time. This year’s Our Networks! “Does not (cloud) compute”— think, local first, permacomputing, solar servers, and exploring collectively what collaborations and online presence looks like when a network is optional. If you’re in Vancouver at the end of July, please go! We twice waved farewell to Sitka. A few hours after untying the lines, the engine that normally cycles water through itself to cool down decided that it would not do that anymore. The problem appeared to have gone away after some tinkering, only to return further down the coast, precipitating an emergency arrival in some questionably-sheltered flies-infested inlet hidden past but a few jagged rocks that the ocean breakers have as of yet unsuccessfully softened. We haven't come across any connectivity for a while. In these secluded days, I am reminded of a passage from one of Thoreau's journals that reads the inscription on a Swedish inn: Meteorological happenings tend to be extremely camera shy, or straight up lethal to the camera itself, but a few days ago, we have seen the most beautiful solar rings(circular rainbows, sun aura) and were able to capture them on camera just as they appeared above our sail. They're hard to describe, and in still photos it looks oftener like lens flares, here's a little clip of the effect. New *Damaged Earth Catalog* entry: :www_server: Redundant Technology 🛠️ going way back to 1997: Lots of thanks to @jameswallbank for insights into the motivations and strategies at the heart of the Redundant Technology Initiative ❤️ #permacomputing #lowtech #SmallWeb #sustainability #tech @prahou awesome! is it using the sdl backend? ive been thinking it might be fun to make a library for running programs in the framebuffer, accessing /dev/mouse and /dev/keyboard for input and whatnot @mostlypat yep, sdl magick! Now if I could only figure out how to use a drawing tablet with the console 🤔 You don't need xorg to video-game on a 20 year old machine running OpenBSD. Heading south, we can almost feel the summer warmth now. We had to make a fire last night, and we're still sailing with snowpants, scarves and tuques. Next time we want to escape the heat wave, maybe we don't have to go so far.. I Ching Hexagram 56. Success through smallness. Sailing in Europe sounds really nice, you sail for 3 hours and you're in a different country. In the North Pacific, you sail for 3 days and you're still in the same fjord.

@rolltime Outage limited to the US east coast. I've had this idea in mind for a while of a sokoban where you program your character's actions in advance.

@neauoire ooo I've always liked mechanics like this, the board game Robo Rally comes to mind! Anyone interested in doing a catlang(forth, factor, mirth, kitten, etc..) gamejam that spans this month and the next? 🐱
