We're still in Sitka, we were supposed to leave a few days ago but the weather has been kind of crappy, and we aren't done exploring every little side-street and trail. According to Butler’s model, a place is first “discovered,” then developed. Locals begin to lose control over decision-making, and laborers from elsewhere come to fill new jobs. The number of visitors climbs. At this stage, tourism becomes the dominant economic driver, and the environmental, social, and economic fabric of the original community changes, often to the detriment of locals’ quality of life.”  @neauoire Too true. Seen this in so many places. From big cities (Lisbon, Cartagena -- Porto is still clinging to its soul) to small coastal cities in Greece where the town changes completely on days with a cruise ship docked and on days with no ship it's a sleepy little town and the tourist trap shops selling expensive crap aren't even bothering to open. The longest suffering (Venice, Barcelona, Baleares, Costa del Sol) are starting to revolt now. Protests, ban on tourst apartments, etc.

Lots of self-aware commercial fishing vessels in this arbor: Pacific Destructor, Coastal Aggressor, Ocean Plunderer, ...   @chandlerc this aligns with my suspicion that we are all secretly forth programmers The person leaving the comment touched a really interesting point, which throughout the evenings when we discussed the various ways to explore the rooms, we have never found a way to calculate time between iterations, it's great to see someone else trying to tackle this difficult question. Casting off again tomorrow to explore the oceanside of the island. It has been an excellent place to stretch our legs and resupply. Until next time Sitka!
