One of my little habits over the years has been to post a New Year's Day illustration on my blog that incorporates the numbers of the year. This year marks fifteen years that I've been doing this, and I'm happy to share this little montage with you.

 💜 :framasoft: Framasoft does so many things in sync with my values that I'm always so proud when I do illustrations for them. Check out their campaign page to end 2023 (and support them if you can); it's presented as a 2D character selection of a fighter video game and it was really fun to draw all the characters and monsters: @davidrevoy Your illustrations really humanise and give so much character to these open technologies and networks. Open source projects have been missing this touch for a long time, and it makes me happy to see that the Fediverse has so many vibrant and unique mascots and illustrations these days. Thanks, David. The recent excitement surrounding Thread's arrival on the Fediverse is concerning. To understand why this is not a good idea, consider their economic interest in harvesting data, their poor moderation, and their manipulations. Nothing good can come from their federation. Don't roll out the red carpet for them.

@davidrevoy I think it was to be expected. It will certainly be tough but the open web will go out of it stronger than before @davidrevoy The hysteria over this is truly confounding. Threads will not be able to harvest your data once federated. Being able to follow someone without the need to subscribe to the same platform/ rules they use/ follow is expressly the value of a federated network for me… Kicking Erwin Schrödinger out of my idols. I kept the habit of my 'direct ballpen' training and I'm trying now anatomy on various perspective. It's mind breaking difficult and I still fail in most of the case. But I still feel I'm learning a lot, so I'll keep pushing. If you wonder why so many Cammy of Street Fighter: it's the first character that came to my mind when I wanted to study body anatomy in transport without going NSFW (but I'll CW here for that).

But the capitalist market said it would live forever?!  @davidrevoy Rant about the world of social media and marketing: My latest (very recent) shock was receiving an email from a digital painting software company (I can't name them) asking me my price to switch my entire workflow to their proprietary product and announce it on my channels. Of course I refused. I'm still 100% committed to Free/Libre&Open-Source Software. But it made me realise that these days even profiles without a huge internet presence are getting paid to use and advocate things.
