Painterly comic panel: On the porch of a house, under a snowy night, a little girl sits curled up in a blanket. Near her, a postman is talking to her.

@davidrevoy I am amazed at how simple and effective your storytelling style is, and artwork is simply amazing. Thank you.

@davidrevoy Great work!!
the spanish web section is the only one that also translates the names Pepper and Carrot.

I think that should keep the name in English (just my opinion)
Even in Mexican spanish page keeps the untranslated names...

@davidrevoy LOVE the new side by side feature... Makes reading it in different languages for learning them much easier! (Did that a bit already but this makes it so simple, no more typing stuff into translators)

I did a four-page short comic for Le Lombard (Belgian publisher), it was a contribution to a big book project in French, featuring 24 other comic artists; an "advent calendar" book for Christmas. And yes, you have to cut the page every day in December to reveal a new story. I negotiated to have mine published on CC-By and made it using only FLOSS :linux: :krita: :inkscape: .

Book cover photo: a thick book (A4 size) of Santa struggling to manage his reindeer in a comical way and with a rounded comic line and colorful tone. Title: "La BD de l'Avent", French for Advent Comic as in a "Advent Calendar". In the background a comic page sample, half cut, with white speechbubbles (to not spoil the story). It represent a dialog between a postman and a young girl in front of a house during a snowy winter.

@davidrevoy I wonder if I could get this by mail order (and will it arrive on time)

I have just posted on my blog my review video and documentation on how to install the "XPpen Artist Pro 19 (Gen 2)" display graphics tablet on GNU/Linux using only Free (libre) and Open Source software.

Sounds like Wayland kind of sucks.

Thanks again to everyone who came to my Krita workshop at the Capitole du Libre yesterday. Here's a drawing for you ๐Ÿ˜‰

A digital drawing in black and white of a cosy dragon wearing a vintage nightcap, glasses and holding a teacup in front of a fireplace. She is smiling. On her lap, a crochet kit.

Iโ€™ve been working hard on my video review of the Huion Kamvas 19 Pro using only Free/Libre and Open Source Software. Canโ€™t wait to share it with you next week! In the meantime, hereโ€™s a piece I painted with it! ๐ŸŽจ

#krita

A digital painting where a tiny lion mascot with a big stylus, Leo the mascot of Huion, approach a giant lotus floating in the middle of a large room and over a stream of water. The Lotus emits some electric arc and shine in the darkness of the room.

Sketchbook randomness โœ๏ธ
(part of my "drawing directly with a ballpoint pen" training)

#sketchbook #ballpointpen

A double page of sketches: character and creature design, a bit of Xenia, and more characters.
A double page of sketches: character design of a little magician with a tail. Expressions sheet.
A double page of sketches: a bit of Yennefer/Regis/Ciri from memory, and then anthropomorphic creatures playing games, sketching, etc...
A double page of sketches: A girl watch her phone, pose and close-up on her face, then a full page top-view on a party with many anthropomorphic creatures.

@davidrevoy I'm fucking loving you as an artist.

Please don't take fuckin love literally

I have done a lot of testing, diagnosing and reporting over the last few days, both for the Huion Kamvas Pro 19 and the XpPen Artist Pro 19 (gen2) using only free/libre and open source software. :linux:

Thanks to Benjamin Tissoires and @whot (but also Josรฉ Expรณsito ) and the great udev-hid-bpf project, both models are now running very well. ๐ŸŽ‰
I'll now work on the blog posts and review videos (and a comparison).

A wide panorama view on my workbench: the device is a XPpen Artist Pro 19 gen2, a large display tablet connected to a laptop (a Lenovo Yoga 370) with Debian KDE 12 X11 on it. Visible: two stylus and the remote pad for shortcuts.

@davidrevoy thanks I remembered I need to email th debian mailing list asking about running udev- hid-bpf with default kernel.

Thanks for testing the devices and helping in getting proper support

Bart Groeneveld

@davidrevoy @whot What is the device on the left of your laptop? A few buttons and a dial?

Edit: sorry, I didn't read the issue. Apparently the buttons normally found on a drawing tablet itself.

@davidrevoy@framapiaf.org @whot@fosstodon.org hopefully support for huion and xp-pen devices on linux can be as well supported on linux as wacom devices

i've been sticking with an aging cintiq (its over 10 years old but still works, and i've stuck with it since i know it works on linux works better than it did on windows honestly) but i know eventually i'm gonna have to replace it, and i've been holding off on thinking about that out of uncertainty about whether or not a huion or xp-pen would work (i know there are drivers, but i'm less certain about them working... and if i'm spending hundreds of dollars on a screen tablet...) and a new wacom is way too expensive

Holy guacamole, Huion has finally agreed to send hardware for one of my "Running on GNU/Linux with only Free/Libre and Open Source Software" reviews. I've been working on that for years!

@davidrevoy Talking about open-source firmware, are there any macropads that use QMK? qmk.fm/

@davidrevoy I found using the xppen artist pro 16tp on Ubuntu with wayland and multiple screens to be a crap fest with crashing drivers for the tablet functionality and setting the active area in the software being a pain. The screen came straight up though

Creating smiles, one drawing at a time! Here is one for my amazing dentist friend! ๐Ÿ‰๐Ÿฆท

#sketchbook

A photo of an open A4 sized sketchbook. On the page, a drawing made with a black pencil of a cartoony dragon, seating happily on the chair of a dentist. Meanwhile, a young woman with a medical mask his fixing one of his teeth in his large open mouth. It's signed "For Eva, Friendly" and with my signature and 10-2024 date.
The Pencil visible for scale on the photo is a FaberCastel Polychromos black 199.

Finding my comic book in a bookstore, let alone in another country, is both surprising and humbling. It's a small joy I was grateful for during my trip to the Raptus comic festival in Bergen, Norway.

I just posted more about it on my blog (photos, a watercolor and fan-arts I received) : davidrevoy.com/article1044/pho

A photo of me, opening a printed comic book of Pepper&Carrot translated in Nynorsk, Norway, on a book store.

Just arrived in Bergen for the signing session at Raptus festival! ๐ŸŒŸ I saw my first aurora last night, thanks to the great convention team. Iโ€™m still thinking about it while having breakfast! โ˜•

Just got the photos of last night's #aurora. Imagine this IRL very very subtle: the long exposure capability of this camera revealed more than what we could actually see. But it was still an amazing experience.

me, blurry because of very long exposure in front ursa majoris and an aurora.
A better shot of the aurora, almost the drapery curtain is visible.

Many characters are sitting on a branch over a small pond, in nature. The branch bends under the weight of the giant Mastodon mascot. On his head, Carrot is fishing, but only gets a flower. Near him, the mascot of Misskey Ai-chan (a young Japanese student dressed in a school uniform and with cat hears) is fishing: she has caught the mascot of Peertube, an octopus. Pepper the witch is sitting in the middle of the branch, amused by the scene, and on the left, Pleroma-tan (a fox girl in a dark Japanese dress, with a fox tail) is also amused by the scene. Under the branch hangs the mascot of Gotosocial, a sloth.
