@davidrevoy Happy to report that it also works pretty well in akkoma/pleroma with it’s downscaling to fit inside a 16:9 box. 14px is where readability stops for me. And thanks for making the font file available :drgn_heart:

@davidrevoy@framapiaf.org oh my, I didn't notice the cats in the back until looking closer. Now that is a CatStation.

I learned this morning of the passing of Akira Toriyama, the father of Dragon Ball, Dr. Slump, designer of Dragon Quest, Chrono Trigger. Also, probably the artist who influenced me the most when I started drawing. Here is an old fan art I drew of Arale. My heart is really heavy this morning...

@davidrevoy thank you for posting about this. He is one of the biggest names in anime, and will be missed dearly. I have a soft spot for Dragon Ball and Arale, and love your artwork.

@davidrevoy hell yeah! Im not a krita user but fill gap close features is such big QOL thing that every art software should have it!

Stop sending me your novels or texts written by an AI. I definitely don't want to read or be exposed to AI output. I don't want to AI-poison my imagination with the most statistical tropes, and a big mix of story data that might be plagiarism from I don't know what source. Furthermore, I think that feeding my imagination with human-made imaginary is a better diet to train my own ideas. (I thought it was obvious, but apparently it's not. I'm writing this to pin to my profile.)

@davidrevoy this win is HUGE! It means we're still breezing past the Bird Site and the Farmville homepage🐦🚜 My bet? Mastodon is going to keep rocking, while the rest of the social media world slowly turns into a collection of spam posts. 🥔✨ Here's to staying awesome indefinitely! 🚀 #Mastodon

Down in a Rabbit Hole
David Revoy
I started the year with a big month of problem solving. Nothing really exciting, I mostly did home maintenance: cleaning, DIY, hard drive replacement, archiving, power supply replacement, setting up a home server, making better backups for all devices at home, centralizing family photo albums, converting media, etc... etc... It was a bit of a never-ending rabbit hole once you started down it. But a pleasant one, because all the various little improvements were immediately rewarding.

@davidrevoy The nickname for our house is "rabbit hole" so I love especially love this work of yours. 🐰 😄 ❤️

@davidrevoy I think the smoking girl is my favorite. She has this absolutely brilliant facial expression of annoyance. The way she looks at the viewer is perfect. 🙇

@davidrevoy whoa beautiful works. I love ink draw. I even bought a fountain pen for drawing. But I realized i can't draw properly haha. Still learning how to draw Do you ever use fountain pen for drawing David?

I found yesterday that hundreds of 2D Artist Magazine where uploaded to the Internet Archive, and I really enjoy browsing them for the quality tutorials, interviews and amazing artist portfolios. I thought some of you here might like it as well: #archives #internetarchive #digitalpainting #MastoArt #computergraphics

One of my little habits over the years has been to post a New Year's Day illustration on my blog that incorporates the numbers of the year. This year marks fifteen years that I've been doing this, and I'm happy to share this little montage with you.

💜 :framasoft: Framasoft does so many things in sync with my values that I'm always so proud when I do illustrations for them. Check out their campaign page to end 2023 (and support them if you can); it's presented as a 2D character selection of a fighter video game and it was really fun to draw all the characters and monsters:

@davidrevoy Your illustrations really humanise and give so much character to these open technologies and networks. Open source projects have been missing this touch for a long time, and it makes me happy to see that the Fediverse has so many vibrant and unique mascots and illustrations these days. Thanks, David.

The recent excitement surrounding Thread's arrival on the Fediverse is concerning. To understand why this is not a good idea, consider their economic interest in harvesting data, their poor moderation, and their manipulations. Nothing good can come from their federation. Don't roll out the red carpet for them.

@davidrevoy I think it was to be expected. It will certainly be tough but the open web will go out of it stronger than before
John Watson
@davidrevoy The hysteria over this is truly confounding. Threads will not be able to harvest your data once federated. Being able to follow someone without the need to subscribe to the same platform/ rules they use/ follow is expressly the value of a federated network for me…

Kicking Erwin Schrödinger out of my idols. Not because he chose a cat for his thought experiment, but because of one thing I learnt: he sexually abused children and kept a diary about it. 🤮 Src: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Erwin_Schr%C3%B6dinger#Sexual_abuse

@davidrevoy oh, that famous never-failing wiki-proof, which references the not publicly available dairy and some biography written by a no-name in 2012. It’s pathetic.

@davidrevoy Cats do have morals, though. Certainly they don't have *human* morals, but, even so.
