Want a more polished version of Organic Maps running on a Linux phone or desktop? Vote and share your opinion here: https://codema.in/d/phU1JlaV/pick-and-fund-a-maps-app @simon @organicmaps @fdroidorg I could write my own modified peertube which injects media with exploits. My peertube server running free software doesn't help the user. This is why tagging with an anti-feature because "the data comes from youtube" is not helpful and just displays prejudice against apps developed for people who want to watch videos hosted on youtube. Whether youtube can be self-hosted with FOSS is irrelevant. The user is just accessing the data, not producing or serving it. @InsertUser @alanz @organicmaps @fdroidorg And even if you manage to find the mystery link, there's often no useful information there. In any case, I think that "network" anti-features need to be reassessed. If an app is ostensibly a youtube client, then it *must* talk to youtube. To tag it with an anti-feature just because of this is confusing. I understand wanting to promote self-hosting etc. But I can't self-host my parcel delivery, and libretrack as non-free net doesn't change that. @organicmaps This also impacts a bunch of other apps that should be easily visible. I've noticed TorBrowser and Librera Reader. @hl @openstreetmap @organicmaps Also somehow ZOO looks more like a ZOO. Here I needed a while to understand what is that place. Only after reading the labels I understood it is the center of Warsaw, a place that should be one of the most recognizable places in Poland.

@organicmaps not for the first time: @fdroidorg is a, very, opinionated build service for users that are ideologically aligned with them (think RMS). If they want to run that and there's a user base that wants to use it, more power to them. BUT assuming that it is a general purpose app store is just going to lead to endless conflict on both sides. Unluckily F-Droid is not clear about that -they- are publishing the apps and are responsible for the content and operations, not the app devs. ... @organicmaps This also impacts a bunch of other apps that should be easily visible. I've noticed TorBrowser and Librera Reader. @hl since I've started using Organic Maps, I have done a lot of comparisons with Google Maps and it most cases both choose the same route. Now, there's evidence that our beloved #foss is even better. An opportunity to point out that the power of these maps (..and app) lies in our hands - the users. There's no automatic, endless data harvesting here. So, don't forget to add/remove/edit places whenever you can. @jorgesanz @IvanSanchez I have been using @organicmaps (which I understand relies on OSM) in Valencia for a few weeks and I can attest that it is fantastic. I've been using it mostly for the old part of town, but also for bike rides to the beach and have been very impressed with the quality of the maps and directions. Glad to see the great job @openstreetmap and @organicmaps are doing. For cycling to the zoo's main entrance, where I can buy entry, they suggest a sensible route. #Google maps seems to suggest I go through the zoo, possibly via the tiger cage. @hl since I've started using Organic Maps, I have done a lot of comparisons with Google Maps and it most cases both choose the same route. If us users don't contribute to #foss software - using it, reporting bugs, providing feedback, donating whatever amount, choosing it over a closed source & more - at the end, it will be big corps & monopolies running our digital lives. Last week, I used @organicmaps and @openstreetmap for my navigation. Added over 7 new spots (hotels, parks, POI's & more), making these maps & the app, a little more useful for us all. Also, quite happy to see that most places I visited where already there! @hellenicsun @organicmaps @openstreetmap I did realize that you can’t add trees to a street in #OrganicMaps? I think that’s a very relevant in times of heat. @organicmaps now it is officially an app worthy of user support! :liberapay: https://liberapay.com/OrganicMaps/ The new August release of Organic Maps is finally available in AppStore, Google Play, Huawei AppGallery, Obtainium, and FDroid. @organicmaps I noticed in the iOS release notes you were asking if anyone reads them — I always read release notes before updating. Please don't join the “bug fixes and improvements” club 😀 Good news! Organic Maps appeared again in the Google Play store last night without any notifications or explanations. We are grateful for your feedback and support!

@organicmaps I never heard of Organic Maps until Google removed and restored it in Play. Downloaded it and tried it out. Way faster and cleaner than maps. Looks like Google in a small way may have fucked around and found out. This even has restaurants that don't show up on Google Maps..... Nice...... One great side effect of discovering @organicmaps has been that I am actively contributing to Openstreetmap.org again. Fixed 2 outdated locations on my walk to the library today and enriched metadata for others. I am using the Go Map!! (yup) app on iOS for making edits. To avoid similar situations in the future, we recommend using Obtainium and our GitHub releases directly. They are available immediately without delay, there are beta/preview builds, and they have optional Google location services (you can turn them off in settings) to help get your location faster: https://github.com/organicmaps/organicmaps/wiki/Installing-Organic-Maps-from-GitHub-using-Obtainium

@organicmaps Do I need to uninstall my current app of Organic Maps, obtained from Google Play Store? @organicmaps I would try geting it from @fdroidorg first. After all, and for many of us, one good reason to use Organicmaps is to get rid of Google (BTW it would be great to also get rid of the anti-features, but I guess this is food for another thread)

@organicmaps Or even better, install https://f-droid.org/ and install OrganicMaps from there. Don't live by arbitrary Google-monopoly-rules. Happy 20th birthday and thanks to @openstreetmap and all contributors! Organic Maps and many other cool products and services would not be possible without your energy. https://birthday20.openstreetmap.org/ The Doggett's pub (Today's #20YearsOfOSM birthday pub from noon onwards) is behind this big funny shaped One Blackfriars Tower. Shown here in @organicmaps It has a little beer garden out to the South but I'm not sure I've been there since the tower was built. Maybe it's a bit overshadowed these days!

@harry_wood @organicmaps it looks lovely, there was no way could i bring myself to attend in any capacity as OSM's fairy godmother, not the wicked kind :D |
@organicmaps Yes, I would love to. But all I get is a PR_END_OF_FILE_ERROR ... (edit: seems to work now. Great!)
@organicmaps @linmob Can‘t vote, but a GTK UI for Organic Maps would be highly appreciated from my side.
@organicmaps
I can’t vote in this, but want Organic Maps to be available on Linux phones that run Ubuntu Touch and PostmarketOS. If I knew how to vote I would.
