@tommi @organicmaps
I'm always using Organicmaps.
When it is not well mapped, then map it yourself, that's the way we get rid off Google ๐ŸคŸ๐Ÿค

Athens is super well mapped on OpenStreetMap, the acropolis too!

In the past 4 days I have been moving around by using @organicmaps only ๐Ÿ’•

@tommi @organicmaps That's awesome! Is that true for public transport as well?

@organicmaps can you add more editing points for open street maps? Like some sort of advanced version where wirhu single app we can have better options without hampering the overall app. Like street names, village names etc. and we can upload the way of the places which are currently online possible through web version!.

@uneabeille @organicmaps Encroyable! Great work in promoting OSM ๐Ÿ‘ Used it (again) today for a half hour drive and only realised about an hour later my mobile data wasn't actually turned on. My Organic maps app had my journey local, with zero issues getting where I needed to. Pretty sure Google/Apple maps don't work offline. Ne pas sโ€™arrรชter ๐Ÿ˜Š

Today I uploaded all fire hydrants of #Urdorf to @openstreetmap with the data coming from the local water supply org. It has lots of details for each hydrant. Looking forward to see them in @organicmaps Luckily they're already in osmhydrant.org/

Changeset: openstreetmap.org/changeset/15

@tobru @openstreetmap Firefighters from different countries are using Organic Maps to find hydrants and to store additional info in bookmarks on the map.

Today a couple approached me while I was finishing taking 360ยฐ photos for #OpenStreetMap to ask if I was doing cartography. They were surprised to learn than I was not being paid! We talked for several minutes about OSM, and they asked a lot of questions about where to access it and what apps to use. I showed them @organicmaps and how they could use it to find details like water fountains and bike parking, which aren't present in Google Maps. They were so excited!

This is why I do the work. ๐Ÿ™‚

@uneabeille What app do you use for 360 photos? Do the photos go to OSM or another site? I would love to add 360 photos to places.

@organicmaps A little bit more data then im all in organic maps. Good thing I can contribute data from the app itself. I do that whenever I can so that others will also use organic more often. Gmap is useful for me when checking the traffic situation.

A line chart showing that Organic Maps have picked up traction in mid 2021, and by first quarter of 2024 it gas surpassed Maps.me as Organic Maps shows increase and Maps.me is constantly decreasing.

@organicmaps thank you for posting! Huge fan here.

Is it an artifact of data collection that maps.me seems to drop to near zero then zero in its final two data points? Or did it really do that for some reason I don't know about? Next time, it might be worth clarifying that on the graph itself, eg. Omitting that part of the line

InsertUser

@organicmaps it would be amazing if it got as popular as Maps.me was at it's peak.

Another reasons to tut at the Mercator Map projection - how a circle with a radius of 5,000km, centred on Paris, looks according the the Mercator projection

A circle placed on a world map using the Mercator projection shows how distorting this way of depicting the world has become. The circle is highly distended forming a large tear-shaped with undue size and prominence given to the northern portion.

I am surprised how well @organicmaps works in china. It really made a lot of things easier.

Today I had the opportunity to compare organic maps with Apples version. ๐Ÿ˜
So many more details on organic maps!
Even the paths in our cemetery are marked. And more of our shops can be seen. And I could inform about a shop that has been closed some weeks ago.
Just great! ๐Ÿ˜ƒ

@Foxle Organic Maps uses map data from the open OpenStreetMap.org project, also created by volunteers. You and anyone else can improve the map data by contributing to osm.org

@organicmaps thank you very much for the very good work you are doing. Your app is fantastic ๐Ÿ˜ƒ

treefit

can you also import tracks to view them in organic maps?

Lumikeiju

@organicmaps I'm so excited for this feature - track recording is the main "killer feature" that's kept me using OSMAnd+ over Organic Maps!

Interested in improving Organic Maps usability on mobile Linux? Maybe also on desktops (Linux, Windows, Mac)? Discuss it here: codema.in/d/pcMmEAyv/missing-t

It would be great to see a detailed comparison of the pros and cons of QT and GTK (or other alternatives) in the context of less work/more platforms being supported, considering that the current implementation is already done in QT (mostly for dev purposes), and there is an open issue with a black screen on Qt 6.7: github.com/organicmaps/organic

@organicmaps I dont think a GTK frontend for organic maps on Linux is needed. The existing QT front end just needs a little polish for mobile use.

@organicmaps would love to see this on plasma-mobile.

@organicmaps - There are two things I miss about OM:

1. the ability to bookmark/favourite single places a level higher (at the top of the list of lists). I would like to always have a bookmark home at hand.

2. the option to permanently set my own default zoom when running navigation. Sometimes when standing at traffic lights I check what the onward route looks like and I โ€˜pinchโ€™ the screen. The automatic zooom reverts to a zoom that doesn't suit me. The ideal would be to be able to set a default zoom for several speed ranges, e.g. up to 50, 51-90 and above 90 km/h.

And one more little detail - the option to turn on showing the compass rose if the map is not facing north.

Ten years ago I used OpenStreetMap data on my GPS to help me cycle across the US. It was much more reliable than Google Maps (which sometimes invented roads that didn't exist).

Today, I'm using OpenStreetMap data with @organicmaps to cycle in France.
