I am surprised how well @organicmaps works in china. It really made a lot of things easier. Today I had the opportunity to compare organic maps with Apples version. 😁 @Foxle Organic Maps uses map data from the open OpenStreetMap.org project, also created by volunteers. You and anyone else can improve the map data by contributing to osm.org 10 Candidates are competing for 4 seats on the OpenStreetMap Foundation Board, to be elected in Oct. 🗳️ All the candidates' manifesto have now been published and available for you! The OSMF belongs to you, the members. 🙂 Read the candidates manifestos and inform yourself! 🤓 https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Foundation/AGM2024/Election_to_Board/Answers_and_manifestos/Manifestos I recommended @organicmaps@fosstodon.org @organicmaps@mastodon.social to a friend fond of biking and hiking, he told me it's the best app he's ever used. Track recording preview on Android. Missing features are coming soon, stay tuned: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O7vgffhLHwE Thanks to everyone who supports and donates to keep the project alive!

@organicmaps I'm so excited for this feature - track recording is the main "killer feature" that's kept me using OSMAnd+ over Organic Maps!

@organicmaps I dont think a GTK frontend for organic maps on Linux is needed. The existing QT front end just needs a little polish for mobile use. Ten years ago I used OpenStreetMap data on my GPS to help me cycle across the US. It was much more reliable than Google Maps (which sometimes invented roads that didn't exist). Today, I'm using OpenStreetMap data with @organicmaps to cycle in France. Made my first contribution to #openstreetmaps via @organicmaps. Now all my favorite restaurants of my home city are listed, nice. @BUnicycling Had a bit more luck with importing KML into @organicmaps although the sheer quantity of points is a problem. Did you know that a long tap switches the full-screen mode on/off, and a single (normal) tap allows you to select anything on the map, including roads?

@organicmaps +1 for team “it’s not obvious” and I had to restart the app multiple times until I read by chance why and how to get the controls back on screen. @organicmaps Inspired by Google's move to remove @organicmaps from the Playstore without warning, I finally decided to move my > 3,000 Google Maps saved places to Organic Maps. To facilitate doing this for others' benefit, I made a quick webpage to convert your Google Maps GeoJSON data to GPX and KMZ files that render well in Organic Maps. https://rudokemper.github.io/google-maps-places-to-organic-maps/

@rudo @organicmaps What?! When did google make this move?! I have been an Organic Maps user for the past year @rudo @organicmaps wait what is google doing to organic maps? I have been recommending this to everyone in my motorcycle riding group but I don't use android. I'm loving making tiny contributions to #OpenStreetMaps through the editing capabilities of #OrganicMaps. @gerg it feels great! Some great apps if you wan to do even more: @streetcomplete to gamify the process of updating this micro (data very accessible to new users) State of the Map 2024 is over, so it's time to start planning SotM 2025... which will be in Manila, Philippines! 🎉 #OpenStreetMap #OSM #SotM #SotM2024 #SotM2025 #StateOfTheMap 🗺️ One more day at the bungalow, then we move to our place in the city. We’ll still come often, as these are some of the coolest beaches around, and there’s food! Talking about OSM, I wanted to thank both @openstreetmap and @organicmaps because I use them very extensively both for planning and navigation for every single one of my crazy #hiking trips. This is where I went thanks to you 💚 Want a more polished version of Organic Maps running on a Linux phone or desktop? Vote and share your opinion here: https://codema.in/d/phU1JlaV/pick-and-fund-a-maps-app @organicmaps Yes, I would love to. But all I get is a PR_END_OF_FILE_ERROR ... (edit: seems to work now. Great!) @organicmaps @linmob Can‘t vote, but a GTK UI for Organic Maps would be highly appreciated from my side. @organicmaps @simon @organicmaps @fdroidorg I could write my own modified peertube which injects media with exploits. My peertube server running free software doesn't help the user. This is why tagging with an anti-feature because "the data comes from youtube" is not helpful and just displays prejudice against apps developed for people who want to watch videos hosted on youtube. Whether youtube can be self-hosted with FOSS is irrelevant. The user is just accessing the data, not producing or serving it. |

A line chart showing that Organic Maps have picked up traction in mid 2021, and by first quarter of 2024 it gas surpassed Maps.me as Organic Maps shows increase and Maps.me is constantly decreasing.
@organicmaps thank you for posting! Huge fan here.
Is it an artifact of data collection that maps.me seems to drop to near zero then zero in its final two data points? Or did it really do that for some reason I don't know about? Next time, it might be worth clarifying that on the graph itself, eg. Omitting that part of the line
@organicmaps it would be amazing if it got as popular as Maps.me was at it's peak.
