I love how @organicmaps often choose quieter side path.
Don't know how you guys made it, but big kudos to you.
And also i found birds over there!
I love how @organicmaps often choose quieter side path.

I've been using this - privacy focused and operates fully without an internet connection - the right stuff #FOSS @OpenStreetMapUS @organicmaps@fosstodon.org @organicmaps@mastodon.social Let’s go @organicmaps just released a new update on the App Store, and I can see my latest contributions! The feeling is awesome. 😌 A hotfix for broken downloads on Android 5, 6, and 7.0 has been released on Google Play. The issue was caused by expired/not updated system root certificates, read more here for geeky details: https://community.letsencrypt.org/t/letsencrypt-certificates-fails-on-android-phones-running-android-7-or-older/205686 Oh, @organicmaps is available on linux also ☺️ 🙌 Makes me even more happy now that I'm donating to both organic maps and @openstreetmap Are you at SOTM 2024 in Lodz? Meet with Michal https://mastodon.social/@RicoElectrico and Ilya https://en.osm.town/@zverik and ask them questions about Organic Maps :) @organicmaps Is it possible to record the tracks/paths I'm traveling? Something like I'm doing with #TrackBook: I'm using that application only for that reason, to record the places I visit, the kms I walk and so on... but for all the rest of my walks I only use OrganicMaps. favourite easter egg of the day: @organicmaps supports quite a few emoji as search terms @stfn @organicmaps Works quite well on CarPlay! I love it! Edit: Attached a photo of Organic Maps on my CarPlay unit I used on my trip to Boulder, CO. I've been watching the review of the new Dacia Spring, and then all of a sudden, a wild @organicmaps appears! https://youtu.be/PIPZa1lG4hY (10:29) @stfn @organicmaps Works quite well on CarPlay! I love it! Edit: Attached a photo of Organic Maps on my CarPlay unit I used on my trip to Boulder, CO. Saving OSM data to use in a place with bad cell coverage *and* being able to load a KMZ on top *and* it will navigate on my phone, all for free? Yes, please! Thanks @organicmaps! Did you know that you can search for any type/category on the map, not just for those categories listed in the Search dialog? The list of all search terms and their synonyms is here: https://github.com/organicmaps/organicmaps/blob/master/data/categories.txt @organicmaps what I want to know is how to search for an address in US postal format. As in "1234 Cheese Ave, Cheddarville, CH 99999". I can never figure out how to search for an address in Organic Maps, so it becomes challenging to use unless I know a nearby named business that shows up. If there's some magic order those items need to go in, I don't know it yet, and would love help clarifying that. @organicmaps I was "somewhat" aware of that since I noticed that searching for categories worked, but is there any plan to provide UI indicating that this feature is available? It would be nice to be able to discover new categories.

Read more about the July release of Organic Maps with the improved address search in the USA, better font rendering for many non-Latin scripts, and other cool changes on our website https://organicmaps.app/news/2024-07-15/have-you-already-installed-a-july-release-of-organic-maps-it-introduces-two-major-features-funded-through-the-ngi0-entrust-fund/ @organicmaps if you got finding from NGI, you should be aware, and spread awareness, that this funding might go away: https://kolektiva.social/@hackstub/112762068812732277 One of the most impactful and infuriating algorithms in our lives is the routing algorithm on Google Maps. With 80% market share, it offers us very little control over our routes. If we want better, we will need to support competition like OpenStreetMaps. My latest for NYT Opinion (gift link):

@Julia Waze is actually an open-source app that thosands of volunteers, like myself, have invested millions of hours into improving. I used to be the (volunteer) state manager for Maine, and I responded to feedback from local communities to avoid the sort of issues your NYT piece describes, such as routing needlessly through residential areas. If someone isn’t getting the routing they expect from Waze, hop in and work with the other volunteers to fix it. @Julia I remember Maps.Me was on the was to rival Google Maps (of course given Google's app is preinstalled, it would be still like 10%). At the peak it got like 10 mln monthly active users. Alas first it's owner mail.ru pushed for profitability, and then it sold the app to a korean crypto bank, sacking the team. @organicmaps is the exact same app with some of the original developers, but without marketing funds. @ilumium @EricCarroll Something else, I’m organising a #walk with a friend through the #neighbourhood I used to live. So I printed a #custom map from @organicmaps because #Google could not make head nor tails from what I wanted. @drrjv @pixelpartner I can only encourage to give @organicmaps a try. At least in 🇪🇺Europe the Apple Maps data quality is often inferior to what Organic Maps/ @openstreetmap has. A new July release of Organic Maps is already available on our Github and can be installed manually or via Obtanium. It it in review in other app stores. Stay tuned! https://github.com/organicmaps/organicmaps/wiki/Installing-Organic-Maps-from-GitHub-using-Obtanium

@organicmaps hi! Thanks for great maps!) By the way, is it possible to change language of Wiki articles that appear when you tap on different objects? For example, I'm a user from Belarus, but suggested info comes from russian Wikipedia. I'd rather see Belarusian Wikipedia articles. @organicmaps Thanks for adding weblinks to menus for restaurants. :ablobattention: Meet US zip & UK postcode search, street name announcements, iCloud backup and sync, and other improvements from our team in the June Organic Maps update! https://organicmaps.app/news/2024-06-22/the-major-june-update-and-a-follow-up-osm-data-only-update-with-a-hotfix-for-the-ios-app-hanging-were-successfully-published-and-are-available-in-all-app-stores-and-on-our-github/ @organicmaps Thanks for adding weblinks to menus for restaurants. :ablobattention: @organicmaps Are there plans for backup and sync on Android? The obvious equivalent to iCloud on Android would be Google Drive, but for privacy conscious users (myself included) this would be a no-go. Syncthing support would be perfect, and I think many people would love to see Nextcloud support. At my hotel and @organicmaps has the pedestrian bridge cut though! Gotta find who added it to OpenStreetMap and send a thank you. @watmildon @organicmaps I love seeing small details on the map like that! Sometimes I'll go and compare it against Apple/Google Maps to see the difference |
