If you update to the latest @pixelfed app version, and the app still crashes when you open it, it means your server is running an outdated version and needs to be updated before you can use the app.

The minimum supported version is now v0.12.1

A new TestFlight build is out with a fix for the app crash affecting most users.

Album carousels are temporarily unavailable until the next build, instead you will only see the first image.

Spent all night tracking down a bug in the @pixelfed app that is causing crashes on startup

While it would be so nice to be able to use a 3rd party service like Sentry to more easily track bugs & crashes, I'm not willing to sacrifice user privacy in this regard

So I will start writing tests and setup a CI pipeline to help catch regressions, while keeping the app free of 3rd party APIs

@dansup @pixelfed Worth checking if it was posted from iOS Beta. Your app isn’t designed for the next version of iOS, so might be worth seeing if the crash info comes from iOS betas too

I looked into Glaze support for @pixelfed, and sadly it's impossible to integrate due to the license and lack of SDK/api

Interesting to note that the first version of Glaze was broken by advances in AI so they are on the next version (which could break at any time) so it's not really a long term solution IMO

I wouldn't be surprised if Cara's huge AWS bill is due to Glaze

@dansup @pixelfed They made a post about the cost and traffic a few weeks ago. Might be Glaze, which is turned off now on Cara.
Honestly as someone who paints even attempts to prevent theft by AI counts. I know of a few artists, who moved from social media altogether. And honestly the internet is a sad place without it.

AFAIK nightshade requieres 5GB or more of GPU per image process and it takes hours. Is Glaze faster? It would be incredible to have something like that in Pixelfed, but yeah, the AWS cost would be ridiculous 😰

You can't ignore the strength of ActivityPub and the fediverse.

Pixelfed has nothing to gain and everything to lose if it shifts from its open, fediverse-focused direction to seek VC funding.

I've turned down several offers.

I'd rather be funded by y'all on a shoestring budget than sell out and have @pixelfed lose the very luster that made it shine.

It's your impact that makes our project shine. Forget profits; y'all are the true shareholders.

Portfolios highlight a curated list of your posts with a unique URL and customization (like DeviantArt)

Groups are a way to explore communities based on shared interests/topics (like Flickr)

I don't see a way to boost/repost photos on mobile, nor a way to view bookmarks. (Or Collections for that matter)

It would be nice if we could put bookmarks we want organized into these new Collections (that sounds like what you're aiming for, but I'm not sure). Can't figure out how to add posts into Collections in general.

I can't seem to find a way to save any media from posts, at all. Can't expand to zoom in either. That's probably not intentional, right?
