We're not just an Instagram alternative!

Collections allow you to group posts together, like a recent trip, or a bunch of recipes (like Pinterest)

Portfolios highlight a curated list of your posts with a unique URL and customization (like DeviantArt)

Groups are a way to explore communities based on shared interests/topics (like Flickr)

We continue to develop features for artists, photographers and everyone in between! ✨

@pixelfed Fediverse alternatives always live in the shadow of their big tech relative, but not for long. Soon we will rise from the ashes. πŸ™

Dark and and Stormy

@ErikUden @pixelfed But to rise from the ashes (like a phoenix) you would have to die first 😱

Maybe quoting Bob Dylan fits better here:

The line it is drawn
The curse it is cast
The slow one now
Will later be fast
As the present now
Will later be past
The order is rapidly fadin’
And the first one now will later be last
For the times they are a-changin’

@pixelfed
I've just updated the Android app.
Can I post some feedbacks here?
-blank screen anytime I hit "back" both with system and screen arrows;
- no more support for stories (or at least very hard to find);
- sensitive contents are no longer visible (i.e. booze and food contents, usually hidden and marked as sensitive, are no longer shown in hashtag search).
The previous version was more usable, I know you can do a lot better!
Pleas update soon! 😊

@pixelfed Have you seen Jack Conte's talk at SXSW? I think he has some great ideas!

@pixelfed awww... poor photographers aren't artists. ;)

jk, btw.

In all seriousness though, what would you say is the main benefit of posting photos on #pixelfed vs. posting the same photo on #Mastodon?

And how well is the federation between the two platforms going?

thanks so much!

Galvao

@pixelfed Joined as a tester, but couldn't use it yet, it says the instance that I use (phpc.social) has an invalid software version πŸ˜ͺ

Julio J. πŸ€²

@galvao I'd guess you need to use an instance running Pixelfed. phpc.social is running Mastodon afaik so it's normal you can't use the pixelfed app with it. @pixelfed

@pixelfed 20 character password, no thanks.

JoeBecomeTheSun

@pixelfed Why PHP though? Why not Ruby like mastodon or Golang/HTMX/SQlite/OpenBSD.

Cegorach

@pixelfed @zLabor well, but collections and portfolio is utterly broken

I never saw a use of groups? So maybe that.

Thing is: there's a difference between creating features and creating unable features

pixelfed

@drazraeltod @zLabor They are working fine for us, maybe you can help us fix the issues you are claiming?

Cegorach

@pixelfed @zLabor portfolio curation is useless

you can only select from recent posts and never add some older image - removing things is even worse, because you can only clear everything, but never remove a single old image

and collections are even WORSE than that! There's not even a link to collections in the new design anymore!

These look like features nobody ever tried to use for real.

@pixelfed the new app certain feels cleaner and more refined. Few kinks to work out still:

-

After scrolling through Home for a while the app starts stuttering, and starts juttering upwards shakily, as if it's trying to force me to stay out while it loads.

-

I don't see a way to boost/repost photos on mobile, nor a way to view bookmarks. (Or Collections for that matter)

-

It would be nice if we could put bookmarks we want organized into these new Collections (that sounds like what you're aiming for, but I'm not sure). Can't figure out how to add posts into Collections in general.

-

I can't seem to find a way to save any media from posts, at all. Can't expand to zoom in either. That's probably not intentional, right?

-

The option to disable RSS feeds seems to be broken (remains on no matter what I set it to)
