You probably got a suggested updated for K-9 to "Thunderbird Beta for Testers".
This is just a metadata issue, which displays a wrong name and icon. The update itself is K-9 in version 8.0. You don't get automatically switched over to Thunderbird.
This will probably be fixed in the next index update.
In other news: Thunderbird for Android is available now on #FDroid (as a new separate app) ;)
This week in #FDroid (TWIF), this time in the correct week :awesome: :
- please do test F-Droid 1.21.0-alpha
- GNU/Linux.ch have a short introduction video about us
- PPSSPP got an update after 9 years
- Ruler (Privacy Friendly) got an update after 8 years
- and also VLC got an update, but only a targetsdk bump, so no new features here
- and a big round of cleaning

We have a new blog post about the Mobifree project and our role in it.
In short, it's a human-centered, ethical alternative, that champions privacy over profit and believes in collaboration, sustainability and inclusiveness.
PSA: The panic button features built into F-Droid break when targeting newer Android SDK versions (e.g. #targetSdkVersion) due to new restrictions.
It might be possible to get them working again, but we currently do not have the bandwidth to maintain this. We welcome contributions to get it going again. Until then, removing the panic features looks to be our only responsible course of action. #CalyxOS includes built-in panic features like app removal, so that is a recommended replacement.
This week in F-Droid (TWIF) was just published again!

@fdroidorg Talking about MRepo: for those of you feeling it important that their #Magisk#Modules, too, are #OpenSource you can add the IzzyOnDroid Magisk Repo to MRepo:
We have defined a secure and usable architecture for decentralized package repositories that any mobile user can use and understand possible risks.
The next official release of the official F-Droid client will widely deploy this to our users. We then plan to make a final architecture document, so others can understand the whole model.
Unlike Google, F-Droid does not force developers to publicize their name or address information.
We understand that people have many reasons to develop under another name than their legal one and to keep their personal information private. And that what matters is the trust between user and developer, not private details of their lives.
@fdroidorg What I'd really like is a notification from F-Droid every time an F-Droid-hosted app goes closed source (à la FBreader, Mendhak's GPS log, others). I'd happily do my part and forward to F-Droid any scuttlebut I hear about such turnings.
@fdroidorg We did not leave the F-Droid Reproducible Builds project, because we never entered it in the first place. It was not an active decision by us; F-Droid manages their own app repository and decides which apps go in and how they are built. Our development process results in two artifacts, a AAB build for the Play Store, and an APK build that is published on GitHub, both of which are made from the same 100% open-source, GPL code.
@fdroidorg Wow. I don't use an app for the Fediverse, but spreading lies - and getting caught - will hurt your project. This needs a hell of an explanation or i am done with your store. What a cheap shot, didn't expect this.
#WireGuard becomes the first VPN app on #FDroid to be built reproducibly! This means that WireGuard on F-Droid is now guaranteed to be 100% (bit-by-bit) equal to the WireGuard the developer builds.
If you're using WireGuard from F-Droid, please export your tunnels and re-install to switch to the developer's signature and continue receiving updates.

The F-droid app is undergoing major changes: Faster and smaller updates thanks to a new repository format.
For this, we needed to change the entire app database. To ensure that there are no regression we need your help: Please install the latest alpha version of F-Droid 1.16 and report anything unusual.
@fdroidorg That was really scary.
thak you for the toot
