@fdroidorg Once a week still sounds too often IMHO.

IzzyOnDroid ✅

@uniqx Less than that would result in a "toot chain". Remember I already do those toots for a while, and even now (tooting "ASAP") sometimes does not fit into 500 chars. So "once a week" would already mean to leave things out if we shall not "chain toots". "Once a month" would probably mean ti either just toot 10% of the news, or have 10 toots in a chain (don't nail me on the number 10, it's just a raw estimate).

@uniqx 🤷‍♂️ I said I follow what the community majority decides, I stay to that. Can make another poll myself then if I shall continue the rain for fdroidorg with my account as well 🤪

@uniqx
This. Just post if there is an essential news. Like MANY new apps. Important new apps. Excellent new apps. @fdroidorg

@fdroidorg I answered once a week, but maybe 2 week cycle would be better. It'd also serve as a recommendations for new apps to try.

@fdroidorg

I follow @IzzyOnDroid; they seem to post almost daily, and I like that.

I think the best answer is, "when you've got interesting new stuff".

Screwtapello

@fdroidorg I voted "other"; I'd be interested in one post a day if there were noteworthy new apps or updates to really popular apps. If it's just posting every new and updated app, that would get pretty noisy and once a week would be better.

@fdroidorg Significant news curated by a human would be fine even daily. For a bot posting New package versions Plesse open another account that can be subscribed independently. The main account can also boost significant version updates.

@fdroidorg As a note: we'll re-evaluate once toots have been "sounded" for a while (say, a few months) – so those not following my account or the mentioned AndroidAppRain tag (and thus already know what this is about) can get a feeling for it and, if needed, voice their need for adaption with the next corresponding poll 😉

Or take a look at the tag and filter down to those for fdroidorg to see how "ASAP" would look like 😜

@fdroidorg
I'd say, regarding my update habits, once a fortnight is nice.

jabberati

@fdroidorg Maybe news about new apps, but I only care about app updates if I have the app installed. I already know about app updates from the F-Droid app.

H₂O 💦

Once a day, filtered by a human being to make it more pleasant.
And maybe postpone to next day when too much for a single toot. Smooth the rate of news on a week basis

@fdroidorg "updates", like version updates? Asap, please.

If you're talking about news, than make sure I DON'T get notifications.

Rastal

@fdroidorg Isn't that what you see already on the "latest" tab of the F-droid app?

Tbh, one of the best things about F-droid is it's a level playing field for all developers on the platform, there isn't a curated list of apps or "editor's choice" or other type of promotion spam, which would result in a handful of apps getting pushed over all other apps which end up getting buried.

@fdroidorg through RSS/Atom feed would be nice 🙂

@fdroidorg
What about writing about new apps only or if major features were added to an existing one?

@fdroidorg once a month sounds like a good time frame for a "community update". I used to help out with @PINE64 's community updates so send me a message if you need a hand.

John Sullivan

@fdroidorg I think multiple times a week would be great if there are updates that you think are interesting / noteworthy.

The King

@fdroidorg@floss.social bi weekly on a tick-tock style cycle maybe? News one day, new apps the other (mon & wed?)

yoshir

@fdroidorg
Can you fix VLC? It keeps crashing as soonas i load it.

@fdroidorg What I'd really like is a notification from F-Droid every time an F-Droid-hosted app goes closed source (à la FBreader, Mendhak's GPS log, others). I'd happily do my part and forward to F-Droid any scuttlebut I hear about such turnings.
