In case you missed it over the holiday break, the Fedora Project is moving forward with @forgejo as our new git forge!

There is still much work to be done between now and the final implementation, but here's to a new start and new discussions to be had over how to make this happen. 🥳

@fedora @forgejo What an awesome decision :ablobcatattention:

:fedora: + :forgejo:

@fedora @forgejo I'm curious about the decision to choose Forgejo. I'm presently using Gitea and I understand there were reasons to fork Forgejo. I wonder if I should be considering switching to Forgejo.

Is there any public discussion that I can read?

Thanks!

@alxndr Ahoy, thank you for sharing this!

Can I check I understand what's going on here?

Once flashed, this little box basically sets up the sensor to expose values using a Prometheus exporter, to allow another machine on the same wifi network to scrape regularly, and then chart in Grafana.

It's a bit like how might you monitor a set of virtual machines in a web application, right?

Codeberg.org

@alxndr Gave this a boost, as I've been looking for a project like this myself and really liked the way you documented everything in the README. Wishing you a happy new year and sending my thanks for publishing this! ~n

@alxndr hey! Did you print this case on 3d-printer?

‪After 9 months of work, we're happy to announce that Veloren 0.17 is almost ready!

Join us in-game at 18:00 GMT on December 28th, when we will hold a release party on the official game server 🎉

Any news regarding controller support? Tried the game out a while ago on my Steam Deck but lack of official controller support kinda killed my desire to play.

An exciting evening ahead of us: We are performing maintenance on our #Ceph storage system and will distribute data across the machines for the first time.

We expect no or little interruption of our services, but performance might degrade while the new nodes are backfilling.

@Codeberg Given that we use Ceph professionally, I can only whish you good luck and fingers crossed

Step one: Firmware update on the respective drives.

`hdparm --fwdownload xxxxxxxxxx.bin --yes-i-know-what-i-am-doing --please-destroy-my-drive /dev/sdb`

What could possibly go wrong?
(Spoiler: It succeeded for all drives so far)

🔔 Heads-up: There is currently a #phishing campaign targeting #Codeberg users.

If you receive a notification that insults you and your project for poor code quality, combined with an offer to "fix" the problems when you send some money, please ignore and report to us: Mention "@moderation" in response to the issue or forward the email to abuse@codeberg.org.

We are trying to stay ahead of the noise before the notifications are sent.

@Codeberg I was just about to report it. But then the issues were already deleted. Thanks for the awesome moderation :D

That "Robbie" guy

@Codeberg I'm glad I saw this message before I saw the email I got 😂 Thanks for taking care of it so quickly! 💖

Tenacity Audio Editor

@Codeberg We have received one of these issues but it was deleted, likely by your moderation team.

We believe that this _has_ to be a bot or something. As @be said, it seemed that they were subject to another impersonation attempt on GitHub. Also, the latest @gperson saw (hi again) was on your CI feedback repo which...doesn't contain any code.

- Followers-only conversations. Previously, the default visibility of a reply to a followers-only post was "Direct". In this release the default was changed to "Conversation", which preserves the audience of a top-level post. Followers-only replies with correct audience (such as those published by servers that implement Conversation Containers) will also have "Conversation" visibility.
- New filter actions: reject-profile-images and reject-custom-emojis. The reject-media action was renamed to reject-media-attachments.

Nonprofit work is hard. It takes a lot of time, dedication and, more often than not, you see volunteers taking in multiple different tasks and responsibilities to keep everything running. Thankfully, we occasionally get external contributors that help us out!

For instance, I would post something serious so as to promote our nonprofit, but it seems like #GitHub decided to help us with the marketing for the day by sending a bunch of its users (multiple) emails about GitHub Copilot. 😅

@Codeberg Yeah. Got that mail and was like "I sure hope it's opt-in." as I have no interest in AI solutions and even think they start to become overused and dumb down various sections in our world...

Why try to learn from mistakes and trial and error, if copilot can just spit out the solution?
It's kinda depressing honestly...

Miron

@Codeberg I'm seriously going to move all our repositories out of github.

This free service might end up costing me my job.

@Codeberg as a volunteer for a FOSS community run project where I’ve seen someone hold a seat on the BoD, Deputy Director of Tech, T&S responder and highest community role at once(poor bastard) and as someone who personally holds a community roles while being basically an unofficial technical team member, o7 to all of y’all. Definitely making me strongly reconsider a move(even if no forge will ever have as good an issue tracker as Phorge.it, fight me😌)

If you appreciate Codeberg's service (or don't but want to improve it 😉), consider dropping us a donation for the next year.

🎁 donate.codeberg.org/

Your money helps to

- cover the hosting costs for thousands of free/libre projects and allow for investments (e.g. fast storage or CI/CD)
- sustain and extend the human resources involved (we currently have one part-time employee; with your help we want to invest more into the development of #Forgejo and improve our infrastructure setup)

@Codeberg Open source communities need your help and if you want them to continue creating their products then you should donate.

Everyday Freethought

@Codeberg

Not to be rude, but why are you asking for donations now? A year ago you said you had about 10 years of runway. What changed?

Also: Do you publish any financial reports/statements?

Although we are not fully sure yet, there is a suspicious activity pattern from Russian IP addresses that currently brings Codeberg to a halt.

If confirmed, it is the first #IPv6 #DDoS attack in our history. Previously, we were only dealing with IPv4 so far.

Codeberg.org

If you want to be sure not to get blocked by our systems, please double-check you are not asleep on the F5 key now. Okay? Great.

222666 is your lucky number: It marks issues in #Forgejo that allow you to help improve the software and thus #Codeberg.

If you are interested in picking up a task, I'm happy to help and mentor where I can. Let me know if you prefer #coworking or at least a code reading session via screenshare.

@fnetX For a brief second I feared this was the number of open issues....

Also, should I insert the joke that this is the devil because 666, or is the joke too old now?

Litchi Pi

@fnetX I'd be happy to have a code tour once I'm more confortable in Go..
I'll ping you in a few weeks ?

If you use #Codeberg for your #Git hosting, which other services you rely on can you recommend further?

For instance, we appreciate the service by #LetsEncrypt for our TLS certificates and Anoxinon for our Mastodon instance.

The #Forgejo monthly update was published ✨ It is a high level overview of the project activities.

A security audit and internal preparations have lead to unprecedented security releases for Forgejo and the Forgejo Actions runner. The migration to a new k8s cluster has made huge progress and is now powering the Forgejo-specific services in production. Improvements have been made to the performance and stability of Forgejo as well as to the automated testing process.

We are performing maintenance on our Ceph cluster, which might lead to reduced performance or short periods of unavailability in a few hours, starting 20.00 UTC. We are trying to minimize the impact on the systems.

Work started yesterday and went well except for a brief interruption. Today, we are upgrading the Ceph version, which ideally also completes without downtime or interruption.

Codeberg.org

The upgrade was performed successfully with a brief (a few seconds) of downtime.

Codeberg.org

Ok, I did it. Here is my first open source project that actually does the thing I made it to do. It makes an RSS feed for your basic website:

I just hope my code is not so atrocious that Richard Stallman regrets giving literally anyone access to the GNU C Compiler.

just read the build script and oh.. *oh*

it looks like you either initially tried using GTK or included a bunch of libraries you have on your host system just to prevent any possible linker errors

So @Codeberg suffered from high traffic [1], bringing the site almost down. They managed to fix it by blocking access to one repo that attracted all this traffic for reasons (as of now) unknown to us.

What worries me are the comments under their post pointing at various proprietary, commercial services like Cloudflare, Amazon as the obvious way to mitigate. If we really are at the stage where the internet is so broken that you … (1/3)

Honestly, we are currently out of ideas on how to restore access to Codeberg.org.

We are fighting with extreme traffic and high load for several hours now, we have done the typical procedure to identify and block misbehaving AI crawlers.

However, we are currently having a hard time figuring out details about the ongoing high traffic situation.

@Codeberg do you want an introduction to the Amazon people at Fastly ? They can probably help you for free through their Fast Forward program, and have tools to fight this

It's the time of the year again where many non-profits do their budget planning for the next calendar year.

Just so you know that when you want to donate to your favorite projects, now might be a good time to do so. 😉
It increases the chances that your contribution will bring timely improvement to the tools you love.

LibrePlan open web planning

@Codeberg this might be a good moment to tell our followers that LibrePlan can surely use your donation.
