 I shouldn't get to ahead of myself, before I confuse people regarding the Loops "For-You" algorithm, I think I should publish a website with information explaining it. While it does collect data for the algorithm, the data is limited to if you liked the video, opened the comments, made a comment, etc. This will be a privacy and safety focused algorithm with an open and transparent process you, the community, will help shape! The Loops "For-You" algorithm is something I want to discuss at some point It's so very technical and boring to most people, but the lengths I've gone to replicate a basic version of the TikTok one is nothing short of legendary. It involves on-device machine learning, efficient backend processing and a hybrid collaborative approach, that may or may not be fine tuned 😎 Anyways, imma spill the tea soon During the first few weeks of Loops, I want to find and assemble a team of creators who want to pursue monetization in a way that works for our platform, for example: monthly subscriptions. To build a real and sustainable alternative to TikTok will require monetization, and together with the fediverse communities voice, I think we can chart a healthy way forward that puts a majority of compensation in the hands of creators.

  pixelfed.social has hundreds of hours of videos, perfect to seed a new Loops type feature. The lack of content on loops.video makes it less useful, so I am leveraging our existing and huge volume of video from pixelfed.social for this feature. We have the infra, backend and data, it's almost too perfect 😎  https://videovortex.tv is a PeerTube server with a ton of short vertical content you might find useful for testing interoperability and such.  @dansup have the Pixelfed users consented to their videos being used to populate Loops? Y'all will love @pixelfed #loops I think, even though we don't have an advanced camera or editing tools yet, you will be able to import videos from CapCut and other apps! - Push Notifications and Dark Mode have joined the chat. I am working with an amazing designer to put a fresh coat of paint on https://fediverse.info That domain and site has a lot of potential, and I'd like to get your feedback before we launch the redesign! FediDB is an essential service to the fediverse, and while I appreciate the success, I do understand the need for redundancy, transparency and continuity. We should have multiple FediDBs, and they should be able to ingest/process/relay data accordingly.  I am begging software projects to release programs as tarballs or plain old static binaries. I don't know what a Helm chart is. I am not installing an entire Kubernetes cluster. Docker breaks LXC and firewalls and is constantly breaking for mysterious reasons. I would rather submit myself to hours of `./configure && make && make install` frustration than try to hack through the endless hellscape of containerized deployment systems.

@dansup Will it be opt-in? I think having a clear explanation on data collection and an opt-in/disable process on visiting the For You feed for the first time could assuage some people's doubts.
There's a few creators I would follow on TikTok if it wasn't for the rest of the app lol
