Remember back before systemd how when something went wrong on a computer it put text into a log file and you could find out what happened? That was neat. We should do that again. @aphyr how does one get an account? I've been posting a lot of leather gear lately and this could be a good space for it I cannot emphasize enough how fucking awful the SQL standard's definition of isolation levels is. Ambiguous in like three different ways, fundamentally broken, and we've known it for TWENTY FIVE YEARS. Every time I talk about an SQL database I have to explain the N different interpretations of the standard and show how a rules lawyer would try to defend batshit behavior. I cannot wait for it to be hurled into the sun and replaced with something that actually makes sense.

@aphyr SQL is bad pain, dammit! But I'll admit I'm glad to not have to find out exactly how much... "At age 15 I subscribed to One [a homophile movement magazine], which I had found in the local library research section. I was visited at school by a US Postal Inspector, and accused of receiving obscene material through the mails. My parents were also visited, and the subscription was stopped, with no charges pressed. (Yes I lied, saying I was 18, to get the subscription.)" W. Charles Clark, "Stonewall and the S/M Lifestyle", Checkmate 14, 1996; reflecting on his youth (c. 1950?) @aphyr@woof.group SystemD is the worst thing that happened to Linux.
@aphyr linux nerds in 200x: ewww microsoft windoze and its incomprehensible event viewer and service management, this is bad
linux nerds in 2020: you configure your services with windows .ini format files and your system logs all go to an incomprehensible event viewer, this is good
@aphyr Yes!
