The whole platform and discovery algorithm will be open source But more importantly, I'm eager to implement better safety and moderation tools to empower users and admins to create more safe, healthy and sustainable communities. While we plan to eventually add a webUI, we are focusing on a feature complete API that will power our official app, and then we will version it accordingly to better support 3rd party clients. I am building a separate webapp/service for business accounts, to make it easier for them to have a presence and schedule/plan/manage videos accordingly, and much more! You need to also handle network errors, check delivery receipts and handle devices that are no longer associated (ie: uninstalled or disabled the Push Notification permission) Or you risk losing the ability to deliver Push Notifications! The federated aspect adds more complexity as our PushProxy needs to enforce and reply to origin accordingly, while being as performant as possible  For Smithereen, I plan on just having app developers include their push keys in their app metadata. They're not of any use without device tokens anyway so they should be safe to publish. The sending will be done by each user's server, there will be no centralized push gateway. Push Notifications in an Expo Bare Workflow React Native app using native (APNS/FCM) gateways is one thing... But also having to support multiple origins (ie: pixelfed instances other than pixelfed.social/art) is complicated So, please bear with me as I gradually roll out push notifications to iOS on pixelfed.social, and later to Android and other instances I really appreciate your patience while we roll out this essential feature โจ parts of the European government are gearing up to push through their "ChatControl" surveillance legislation. I don't want to ignore this, but it feels like most of the people that follow me have already heard all about it. Maybe I'd be better off spending my time and energy on other stuff.
