#Facebook removed a post of mine with a link to my #pixelfed account as a spam. Obviously, they prefer to engage their users spamming them with sponsored posts, instead of having posts that try to lead them to their own liberty. #Fediverse I'm sorry the https://loops.video public beta launch has been delayed Seeing posts like these is especially tough considering it was Threads new "Loops" feature that caused this delay, and now there is even more attention on the project. I think y'all will appreciate this delay once you see and use the app for the first time. And I run 20+ projects, but they all have my proper attention, like the recent app Push Notifications, webUI discover changes, fediDB popular accounts improvements 💅

Heye @dansup, what do you call "an open source/federated FB/Meta empire" exactly, then naming all the sotware you created ? I am not sure I caught your intent. Also, I didn’t say a word yet about The Social Web, and I think it was better so. As it allowed me to take some distance and watch topic arises. Instagram has changed their data export format like clockwork every few months Making it difficult to support Import from Instagram in @pixelfed, though there are better solutions we can employ to ensure your IG export can be imported to Pixelfed no matter when it was created. Why are they doing this? Are they really this worried about @pixelfed 😎 I’m just a guy from Grande Prairie, Alberta, Canada If my lil @pixelfed project threatens Meta to the degree they join the fediverse, ban links or mentions of pixelfed, threaten legal action over photo filter names or copy features or side projects like Loops I can’t do anything But think I’m on to something @dansup @pixelfed How much money could they offer you so that you would stop working on pixelfed and/or relicense your work to Meta's copyright? Such an amount of money is likely a rounding error for them. I don't think any small open source project is considered a threat to them, only one that has major financial backing to promote and fund it. Your work is appreciated but how much is it worth to you? It was the summer of 03' for me. Spent that summer with my cousins and their new HP computer with internet. Jimmy Eat World playing on Windows Media Player while we browsed "haunted" "live" webcam feeds. Later that year I made my first website in middle school and was hooked. In high school a few years later I made my first social network using BoonEx Dolphin and had a blast. I always dreamed of building my own social network, and now I'm living my dream 😁 It is what it is I wouldn't be here, spending 6+ years building @pixelfed if I ever felt threatened by Meta/Instagram They have a reputation for cloning their competitors, and I respect that I'm building this for the real ones, like you That being said, as much as I dislike Meta, I feel that their presence is a net benefit as they bring so many people to the fediverse who otherwise wouldn't be here And I'm okay with that because I really believe in the principles of the fediverse ❤️ @pixelfed And also, I feel proud to not only build @pixelfed in a way that respects Instagram (and its trademarks, etc) but also to be able to work with their developers on federation support (even though I need to do some work on my side) It's a tricky situation, and ultimately, the ability to put my ego aside for the benefit of the @pixelfed community is what really matters, on both sides. Meta has shareholders. Pixelfed doesn't. Meaning you have just as much power to make change as me 🚀 Pixelfed builds and releases mobile app: Meta starts Threads Meta Threads announces AP support: limits support to Mastodon Pixelfed announces Loops with a release date: Threads leaks a new “Loops” feature Almost too coincidental, like how Threads is an IG product, not FB, I guess I must be doing something right 😎 Threads named their new Groups feature Loops. Curious timing, considering https://loops.video is about to launch. Coincidence? I think not.

@dansup well since they "opened" themselves to the fediverse they see what happens here right? btw, all the time when i read about loops i'm thinking about powdered candies 👀 Shoutout to @jaz for suggesting the FediDB Popular Accounts list should show full federation accounts by default, while allowing you to see the full rankings from read-only platforms like Threads!

YSK: Pixelfed instances can now apply for Push Notification Gateway access! We've served thousands of push notifications from several servers already. @pixelfed does/will Pixelfed support post notifications? And if so, can I use the notification service with a restricted instance? (My dad wants an email or notification of some sort anytime a post is made on my family instance.) Btw, for Android, you'd want to also include the notification ID somewhere in the payload so apps could retrieve the full notification object via Solo will be super easy to install, and supported on most Wordpress/PHP compatible hosting providers. You will be able to use sqlite or mysql databases, and the setup process is handled in a web browser. Solo will be the easiest fediverse software to install of all time 😎

@dansup I dreamed of it! This project is a great idea. I am currently tinkering with a photo blog with wordpress + activitypub, but not being a computer scientist it is a bit of a hassle. Thank you for your ideas and all the work you do! Pixelfed <> Solo I've been working on a @pixelfed side project called Solo Solo is a single user, slimmed down and simple, (federated) photo sharing platform. Simply drag n drop your pics and let Solo guide you through the compose process! Solo aims to provide the best photography federated platform while allowing you to curate features you want from Pixelfed. Pixelfed users will be able to setup and maintain a synced Solo site, allowing you even more control over your presence, anywhere ✨
