I took advantage of the stress and relaxed all week, ignoring the self-imposed deadlines and coding, and instead spent time with my family It’s important not to lose focus, while maintaining some sense of balance, and I’m going to dogfood this advice: You need a vacation, don’t be afraid to take a day or two off Spent all night tracking down a bug in the @pixelfed app that is causing crashes on startup While it would be so nice to be able to use a 3rd party service like Sentry to more easily track bugs & crashes, I'm not willing to sacrifice user privacy in this regard So I will start writing tests and setup a CI pipeline to help catch regressions, while keeping the app free of 3rd party APIs

 Maybe something from this list is usable? We're aware of the app crash issue in the latest TestFlight build, and we are working on a fix that will be published shortly!

 Pixelfed + Groups ✨ https://github.com/pixelfed/pixelfed/pull/5215 Shipping soon! Special thanks to @NGIZero for funding this game changing feature! I looked into Glaze support for @pixelfed, and sadly it's impossible to integrate due to the license and lack of SDK/api Interesting to note that the first version of Glaze was broken by advances in AI so they are on the next version (which could break at any time) so it's not really a long term solution IMO I wouldn't be surprised if Cara's huge AWS bill is due to Glaze

@dansup @pixelfed They made a post about the cost and traffic a few weeks ago. Might be Glaze, which is turned off now on Cara.   Happy Caturday! We bought this cat bed months ago, he’s never sat in it 😂 He will sit everywhere else though

 @dansup I'm not a cat owner, but I'd say if you through a couple of dirty laundry items in there...  **knock on door** me: hello, who is there groups: hey, we have your order from 2021 damn, it's time That music your parents used to blast on weekends when everyone was cleaning and doing chores that you hated at the time, but now those songs are your vibes Oh time, you shady bitch!  it's ironic that people seem to forget that by leaving walled gardens, you are no longer protected by a central entity the fediverse is a wild wild west, don't have expectations for what you publicly publish unless you can enforce that at the software/protocol level

@dansup the best and worst part of the Fediverse is how much control individual users have. Control == responsibility.  @dansup Thankfully we can't stop facebook coming to the Fediverse, however much I despise them. It's an odd sort of comfort. Dear future historians: Don't mind me, I'm kinda obsessed with the fediverse 🤪 Blame me for: I'm just tryna make this place better 😎 @dansup It's a beautiful thing Dan. You have been contributing and helping to shape the fediverse You can't ignore the strength of ActivityPub and the fediverse. Pixelfed has nothing to gain and everything to lose if it shifts from its open, fediverse-focused direction to seek VC funding. I've turned down several offers. I'd rather be funded by y'all on a shoestring budget than sell out and have @pixelfed lose the very luster that made it shine. It's your impact that makes our project shine. Forget profits; y'all are the true shareholders.

 It feels pretty good to build a platform and ecosystem that others can profit or benefit from From grants + donations to server hosting, there are several people and entities that are building a biz or getting funding for their Pixelfed focused endeavors! I think that is awesome, and signals the ongoing success and growth of @pixelfed 10 years ago I was running a StatusNet instance on Hyperboria (that didn't federate with clearnet) Now I'm running Pixelfed on the internet (that federates with Threads) Funny, how the threads of fate weave us.  @pixelfed that's cool but when I do that I can't reinstall Pixelfed, I can only pre-register. @pixelfed wow no. Theres no reason for that kind of extremely bad support for older versions. This worship of constant new versioning isn't a problem for users to fix, or be a party to fixing. Went over to my parents tonight and did my yearly ritual of hooking up their portable AC unit in their bedroom My mom was so happy, she said I'm her favourite several times, I just wish I could've got it on voice record so I could share it with my lil brothers 😂 Not a bad outcome considering my past, I put my parents through hell growing up getting arrested, rehab, kicked out of school, etc... It's funny the game of life, growing up despising your parents, only to realize how awesome they are |
