Happy #WorldTeachersDay to all teachers, tutors, and all the educators who continue to inspire each next generation. The @pixelfed Parental Controls feature isn't finished! Here's a few plans: - Parent Hubs (limit federation with parents you know) Pixelfed is perfect for families and local (non-federated) communities! Pixelfed is unique in the fediverse as it supports a special Parental Controls feature where parents can create limited accounts for their children and monitor accordingly. This feature shines on family only, limited federation, and locked down servers ✨ I have a blog post that will be published soon about this exciting feature! @dansup they're not mutually exclusive tho. Features can be bugs. A famous one is riding on pigs in Minecraft 😂🐷 tired: Using Instagram to clone TikTok wired: Building a federated TikTok hired: Planning your "For You" federated TikTok algorithm on Matrix F*ck brain rot. Loops *could* put you on a timeout if you've been scrolling for too long, preventing you from doom scrolling We can build a healthy and sustainable alternative to TikTok Without the need to prioritize monetization We are uniquely positioned to be able to get this right We need you though You are uniquely positioned to participate in the Loops project and have a huge impact, just like everyone else. We need community leaders, I do best coding Are you up for it? Loops will be open source, federated, and easy to install/manage! We are going to release the source code for the backend server and mobile app in the coming months, once we've laid a solid foundation! In the true spirit of federation, we're also going to build full account migration into Loops, so you can take your (whole) loops.video account to your own server once ready. Tick-tock 🚀

@dansup @pixelfed Looks cool. I just joined the TestFlight as @adrianco@pixelfed.social and will try out loops when it ships. Loops is shaping up nicely. After a few months of development, we're preparing for the beta release in a few days. While the platform still lacks a few features, we have big plans ahead thanks to @nlnet grant funding! I'm excited about some unique community-building features we'll be sharing soon. I strongly believe the fediverse could benefit from a platform like this that appeals to everyone, and I'm thrilled to be part of it. The one-click Push Notification setup will allow you to self register with the gateway and get an API key from the admin dashboard! No emailing to request an API key or editing your .env required, available soon! After reading through the docs for both FCM and APNS, I feel like the intermediary server isn't actually necessary, you can have each individual instance send its own push notifications directly to Google/Apple. If you instruct app developers to create separate API keys just for push notifications, no harm could be done with them because you'd also need a device token to actually send something. @dansup So are you using a centralized push notification service that you maintain for this? Or how does this work from a technical perspective? Pixelfed Push Notification Update: - Working flawlessly 😎 So the @pixelfed push notification test is going better than expected, I'll be emailing Gateway API keys to the admins who have applied so far, later tonight! Admins: Even single user servers can apply! https://docs.pixelfed.org/running-pixelfed/push-notifications.html @dansup Don't know if anyone else has sent this in, but the permission prompt happened when opening the notifications screen instead of when toggling the switch on. Just a little weird in the flow as I allowed notifications but then they weren't turned on until I hit the toggle. The toggles also seem to flash a lot when trying to do state changes and are slow to complete changing. |
My late mom worked as a teacher. What a noble profession!
And I myself really enjoy sharing what I've learned. It's a great way to learn something new, or reinforce existing knowledge.
