[DATA EXPUNGED]
Polls will be released on Friday too, and they will federate with Mastodon compatible implementations! @dansup have you seen related work by @grishka on #smithereen regarding polls? @dansup an idea: could it be combined with a picture for a given context? 🤔 or it's just text? So many caveats to think about w.r.t pixelfed groups. - Cross-posting/boosting public group posts - Delegating a new "hub" or origin server for a group would allow one to keep a group alive even if instance decides to shut down. - Group roles and permissions - Group admin level moderation and instance level moderation, and the potential clashes that could occur - Efficient synchronization for users on remote instances that dont have that group "cached" - Group deletion Glad that I don't have to figure all this out alone any more, you're welcome 😂 Actually I don't allow admins from other instances right now because I have no idea how to federate things like name/description/etc changes made by a remote admin. Update{Group} and diff it on the receiving side? Invent a new activity type for this particular case? Reached out to a few projects regarding Groups federation, looking forward to working together on compatibility. @dansup out of interest, was #mobilizon one of those? Seems a logical choice since groups are at the very foundation of what they're trying to do... Caught nearly 4k spam posts without any manual intervention and before users seen them. Love this feature, and though most instances won't see this level of spam, it's nice knowing the majority of it is handled for you. Technically there's nothing stopping you from specifying an arbitrary collection in to/cc, instead of followers. Implementing new ActivityPub object types unused by other projects is fun! I don't have to worry about compatibility, and I get to define my own object schema 👍 #pixeldev #activitypub @dansup soooooo. Question. If I paid for the hosting costs, how much for you to assist to administrator a pixelfed? like, I really want to host the Australian aus.pics or something but Pixelfed docker image seems to be DED. so I need help to maintain a long term instance.

@dansup This shows the need for the Fediverse to scale by adding new instances, and getting places like #mastohost and others to make it easy to do without being a more serious admin. @dansup I use Mastodon more than any of my other social networks. It's as if I've completely abandoned them in favor of this one. I believe there is a better community here that isn't trying to constantly sell me something. Mastodon, Pixelfed, Pleroma, PeerTube and Lemmy are the only projects that have at least one instance with over 10k users. Only Mastodon has more than one instance with more than 10k users, according to FediDB.

@dansup interesting that Fun fact: I wrote a twitter alternative before I started Pixelfed. I didn't account for remote profiles, and when I attempted to implement ActivityPub I realized how much work it would be to refactor the code. I was so mad at myself, I abandoned it. I started Pixelfed a month later to try again, and that is why I was so hesitant on releasing federation support lol. Experimenting with a new ComposeUI option to limit federation per-post. Never would have thought of this, credit to @trwnh for suggesting this! The wording and placement might change, but I think giving people more control over federation is important and aligns with our goals. #pixelfed #pixeldev #composeUI You can "follow" hashtags on Pixelfed and see them in your timeline. It's an interesting way to discover new content in your home timeline. Though I wonder if people would prefer if it showed one post per account, or keep it the way it is and show the latest posts with that hashtag. What do you think?

@dansup I haven't used this feature yet, but I would think one post per account would be the most useful and least confusing. The best focus group I've found is random drunk people at a party. Brutally honest about what they like/dislike, and you get all kinds of different perspectives. Just yesterday invited a (sober) guy at a party to my instance. He found 2 bugs and 1 serious UX issue. |
