I'm not trying to turn pixelfed into facebook, I want to make that clear. Adding optional features like groups and emoji-reactions (which are limited to group posts) are meant to compliment our existing community. I started building groups to help solve our discovery problem (https://mastodon.social/@dansup/106736542219278134) and provide a new way for users to create and grow communities around shared interests and topics without having to run their own instance. #pixelfed #groups @dansup As someone who was recently explaining Pixelfed to someone, I think you should lean into photo-only posts more. It's your main selling point. Showing text-only posts takes that away. @dansup According to several fediverse crawlers, Pixelfed had approximately 6,500 active users over the past month on all instances combined. For contrast - r/Photography subreddit has 4.3 million users. I don't think there really is a need for smaller communities at this stage of Pixelfed's popularity, but that's just my opinion. I have been a user of Facebook and Flickr groups for many years and in both cases I sincerely hate them (the groups). @dansup I really think improving location tagging would help. Let me tag neighborhoods, coffeeshops, trailheads where I’m hiking, and then find other people who were at those places. Or even just make city tagging work better. I can’t tag San Francisco, California because the search shows 80 places in Latin America called San Francisco and then cuts off.

@dansup For the uneducated bunch like me. What does SPA stand for? Obviously searching SPA online doesn't give me very accurate results. :P Reaction emoji + :pixelfed: Pleroma & Misskey already have this feature, so I'll work on compatibility before this is released.

Untweet your tweets, a.k.a. a sending delay, something some 3rd party apps most certainly had for ages. Gotta love paying a subscription for client-side features! Oh, and you do still get ads. And suggestions. And all kinds of algorithmic crap. Good Morning! :blobcatcoffee: I put up some Christmas lights last night and it finally snowed this morning!! Will post pics to @dansup@pixelfed.social later!
[DATA EXPUNGED]
@dansup Glad you're back on track. I was afraid #pixelfed was abandoned. I basically could barely use it from mobile (videos wouldnt upload, arranging sequence of photos not possible), so I didnt even take time to report issues. I hope to try it out again in upcoming days and write things down. Keep going, this project is needed! It's easy to take for granted all the pieces that comprise the fediverse. I'd like to take a moment to thank a few people who laid the groundwork and/or steward initiatives that benefit projects like @pixelfed and push the fediverse forward. @cwebber - activitypub author + goblins dev @bagder - curl developer @mike - zap developer, nomad(ic identity & protocol wizard) @humanetech - stewards ethical/humane initiatives @feditips - unbiased source for topics that affect new and old users @apps, @Tusky & other apps - proving an open 3rd party app ecosystem can be sustainable @Gargron & mastodevs - adopting and helping grow activitypub openly, never using his position and reach against other projects GNU/Social - created oStatus, the AP predecessor And many more, a lot of people and organizations have made a positive impact! I feel like its a blessing and a curse to be developing a fediverse project alone. I'm very fortunate to have the audience I have, not many projects have this, but it can get tough. I feel so alone sometimes, my partner doesn't get why I feel so proud sometimes, because I solved a problem or made a small improvement. None of my family and few friends have made an effort to join Pixelfed, it makes me appreciate the fediverse even more. Thank you ❤️

Thank you for supporting the world and not just corporate interests. Pixelfed is a treasure and has empowered people from all over the world and given them a welcoming platform to share their creativity without fear that they're some monetization scheme somewhere. Release now and call it beta. Collect feedback. Use it to prioritize features 👌 If people say "it's buggy as hell", point at the beta label. |
- You will be able to disable this on your profile
- Country/Location is based on a new optional setting and we do not use any personal information to set this, you must set it yourself
- Group membership intersection is ranked by role and recent activity
- Mutual topics are based on commonly used hashtags but will be expanded in the near future
- Also used in group profiles
It's quite a complex feature, feedback is appreciated!
@dansup id say 'liberated', not stolen 😉
@dansup I too am interested in #test
