I deleted my account on pixelfed.social without reading. Any chance I can get my user back?

Other instances aren't working with the app. I can't tell if it's a bug on the app or on the server.

What does it mean when an article is edited?
Does it become like a new posting?
Or will it appear to be the same posting?
Will the changes permeate into the fediverse, to the same places as the original article?

@dansup it's trained on data scraped on the web, it's not intelligent, I can find this information myself on a search engine and mayne change it up a bit to make it look like this.

@dansup @pixelfed it would be a great addition to run the instance in private mode without access if the user isn’t connected. To use Pixelfed as a closed comunity social the private instance + signup approvals are necessary

It's a lot of work for the admins to manually approve accounts. But how can admins tell if an account will send #spam later on?

@dansup @grishka Glad to hear you are not going this direction. I think relying on corporate infrastructure for moderation is the wrong direction and there is no way to have a selfhosted SMS provider...

@dansup @pixelfed again, i think it's more important to make it easier for folks to actually join. i've been waiting quite a while to join pixelfed.art but you rarely allow new users, so i can't even start building an art presence on the fediverse let alone get any of my friends to make the switch. it might be worth finding people to help you with all your projects before people jump the fediverse ship & stick with ig or w/e facebook is doing with activitypub.

@dansup the problem (to me) with the phone number thing is that there's zero guarantee that the instance you're signing up to hasn't tweaked the code to save the phone numbers. Just because instances of X _usually_ don't save something doesn't mean they _all_ don't.

And we don't want large, centralized instances.

We want to encourage many, small, federated instances. So IMO any effort to improve spam fighting, should go to tools and tech for fighting spam in a world with many, small, federated instances.

@dansup it would depend a lot on how much I trust the instance owner. It’s a standard approach for mitigating bots and reasonably effective - but must every social media company that’s done this has abused the data eventually. Verification by a trusted third party might be an easier sell.
