Proud of the progress I'm making on the Pixelfed app, even though it's 2 years late. 2020 was a wild year for me, and coming out definitely delayed development progress. I'm making up for it now, and I couldn't be happier that I found the love of my life, and we're still going strong ❤️ Instance admins: Would you be interested in following an account that announces instances that are likely spammy or facilitate spam due to lack of instance moderation? This would be automated using signals from https://fedidb.org and other sources to help identify potentially problematic instances. Ideally we could use this to reach out to the admin and let them know instead of just blocking them. What are your thoughts? #fediverse #fediAdmin

@dansup my opinion: Why do people that think automated blocking is a good idea even use federated software? It's like with E-Mail. You host your own server and suddenly find yourself on a zillion block/spam lists because the server is new and therefore "suspicious" and you have to jump through countless hoops with countless vendors just to send a single E-Mail.  @dansup I'd be more interested in sharing spammy IP addresses/blocks - but sure, I would subscribe to monitoring this for review (not for any automated action)  This is how text-only posts will look like on the pixelfed app, a few things I should mention: - text only posts won't appear in timelines - you can't create a top-level text only post - we have no plans to support first class text-only posts, this is only for compatibility with our microblogging friends like GNU/Social, Honk and others  @dansup text posts should appear on a dedicated timeline on a remote user's profile, as a feature it should basically be like iTunes Ping -- see text updates from artists/etc you care about @dansup so glad to see pixelfed isn't dead 🙏 Any timeline when an app might be available on the playstore for pixelfeld? Mastodon vs Pixelfed menu I like how Mastodon has Mute/Block options, but don't like the separate share button. On the flip side you have to go to the profile to Mute/Block on the Pixelfed app. Is that a fair compromise, or should I add Mute/Block to our menu too?

 @dansup most of the time muting and blocking is done as a quick reaction to a single post we're not in the mood to tolerate at that moment for whatever reason. @dansup I would create another button called "More" where those options are included, because the current menu looks really nice, and it wouldn't be great if it's being destroyed by two more buttons.  @dansup i keep asking every few months without answers. but is there any ETA on the facebook groups type feature? or has it been abandoned? i never managed to get into instagram. and as flashy and awesome pixelfed is. i can't really find a way to get into it, just like instagram. but what the fediverse needs is an actual competitor to META. as in: fb groups, messenger, and instagram - the only thing people mostly use them for nowadays. please become this!

 @dansup I am really close to create another pixelfed-instance. Having an app to offer. I am shure this will make the entry to use pixelfed for many people easier. I am already amazed to see what’s there already. You should get at least as rich as the developers of Instagram. But not everything is money. I know. ;) So keep up the great work! I just wish my partner would admit they liked Despicable Me (1, 2, 3) and Minions as much as me. It really sucks when your partner constantly makes fun of you, and it's like hey mr.cool guy, excusme but minions are hillarious I hope y'all never have to deal with minion haters i wish this was a joke, but it's for real. Don't be bullied around by your movie preferences, or you might end up being forced to watch real housewives

The Fediverse has what I missed about USENET--that I'd find myself hanging out with the kinds of people I'd never get to know otherwise. Imagine my surprise while reading an Instagram Engineering blog post only to realize I know the author because I mentored him while working on a project together almost 10 years ago. Max if you're reading this, so proud of you and I hope your dad isn't still mad haha I have the same feeling for folks I used to work with but its bittersweet… sad they’re chasing that pedigree, feeling a tinge of jealousy about the pay, but generally happy for them. Although #pixelfed is the only fediverse project to automate spam detection, it's important to recognize all the other projects and their admin/mod team's who tirelessly do this manual work every day. You might not realize it, but that's the point! #fediverse A few spammers found a way to bypass the :pixelfed: spam detection tool. The ongoing arms race continues, my options are increasingly limited unless I go nuclear... I love challenges like these, continues to make me strive for the best anti-spam tools in the fediverse. Should really blog about this, I'm sure other projects might find it useful. #pixeldev As much as I'd love to spend all my time coding on :pixelfed:, as a fediverse developer I wear many hats - dev updates I'm doing my best, but sometimes it falls short like when I don't respond to every support request. Will work on that, thanks again for your support ❤️ #pixelfed

Added autolinking to the :pixelfed: app! Such a standard feature right? Have you ever clicked on a mention or hashtag in a mastodon app, only for it to open a web browser? Mentions + Hashtags in our app won't open a web browser and instead load in app. It's the simple things...
