@dansup Got multiple PHP installs? I've had it where one would be used in some cases, and a different one in other cases. 8.2.6 is getting used for command line, but is that what you're having for what I *think* is the web server? @dansup I'm not super familiar with PHP (the last time I touched it was shared hosting on PHP 5!) but Composer probably sees a system install and not Valet since Valet hasn't reapplied whatever variables Composer is checking for? Pixelfed admins will have several configuration options for the Import from Instagram feature! The defaults are pretty good IMO, let me know what you think @dansup permissions don't make sense... why would age or follower-count be a good discriminator? i can see the most common legitimate use-case being for brand new accounts that don't have any followers yet...

Just wrapping up Import from Instagram in @pixelfed I wanted to support the ability to import more than once, and allow admins more control over this feature. Been testing against a few larger exports, and it should work for the majority of people, but that being said I will be prepared to ship bug fixes ASAP. Fedi admins: don't worry, imports will not be delivered to followers or clog your job queues!

I stopped using Instagram years ago - basically, when FB bought them. Moved to Flickr, have a pro account, and haven't looked back. Just wanted to mention that thanks to GDPR, Instagram has to provide a way to download your information which makes Import from Instagram possible. Pixelfed has no plans to scrape or otherwise violate the IG API terms of service, and thanks to GDPR, we don't have to!

@dansup is there a plant to support import of Instagram data? I recently exported my date and made a gallery for it on my website https://codercat.tk/gallery @dansup It’ll be interesting to see which U.S. politicians voting against these kinds of regulations will personally benefit from this and who, when the country finally gets on board with these kinds of regulations, will claim — against every shred of abundant media coverage — that they’ve been pushing for this kind of change for years. Because it’s gonna be more than a few.

@dansup Instagram is super toxic, more so than the wildfires in Canada. I'm glad people can move on from that terrible place without losing their pics and uploads. @dansup Oooh, brilliant. I don't care if my insta burns down, but there are so many serious and good photographers out there. This is an epic move. The top 6 fastest growing projects: 1) Mastodon We see you lemmy! Stats from https://fedidb.org @dansup This plot looks like a big drop, but actually describes settling down to a much higher level of activity pre Nov 2022 Added Funkwhale, Bonfire and kbin to FediDB! https://fedidb.org/software/kbin If I have time this weekend, I will add more! We have 114 other projects that need more information (or to be removed as they are duplicates, like Nextcloud treating every instance as a unique software 😒 ) @dansup I just want to say you are doing a great job but also that I am a bit confused over the 'monthly active users' as i looks like it went from a lot of activity to zero... when it in fact are more than double it was before the peak. That view fools you a bit. Took a break from IG import to work on a new site. Both IG import and the new blog will be released this weekend ✨

When researching this feature, I discovered a few sites that offer converting your IG export archives to excel format, so you can browse the data in spreadsheets. I wonder if those people realize what they are sharing with those sites 🤦♂️ IG account exports include a lot of data, and that worried me with my initial implementation as it involved uploading the entire zip to the server first. That is no longer the case, and users will have peace of mind knowing that the import feature will only upload data they specifically choose. Should I add support to allow users to Import from Instagram to @pixelfed more than once? On subsequent imports, existing imported files would be skipped. Anonymous poll

Voting ended 9 Jun 2023 at 8:16. @dansup @pixelfed Ship now, and allow for multiple imports later. I would make it abundantly clear though, that they should back up their existing data first, in case it goes wrong. When I played with instagram archive import I used a clean wordpress account, before taking the risk of ruining my existing blog. I also noticed that IG mangled hashtags in some captions, like there are no spaces between them. Yay 😅 Unfortunately, I'll need another day or two to finish Import from Instagram to @pixelfed I originally was testing against my own export, which is pretty small. I was able to get my partners export and it's over 1GB! Rather than imposing export size limits, I'm refactoring to support any size without requiring admins to increase file upload limits. It's pretty complicated, but the UX is really nice, so I appreciate your patience while I wrap this up! I promise it will be worth the wait 😉

IG import presents an interesting problem with regards to assigning post ids. The goal is to backdate ids of imported posts in a way that doesn’t break things. We can’t backdate posts using snowflake ids because of the epoch, so instead we are using the id key space between auto incremented ids (which is less than 50k on pf.soc) and first snowflake ids. This will allow for 1m users to import up to 10k posts without affecting existing ids or having to check if they are used. 😎

@dansup I thought I was hip to the current slang, but I guess not. WTF is a hashflag? Did you mean hashtag? That's what autocorrect thinks. Why do you have to buy one?
@dansup do any Fediverse platforms even support that? I assume it could be implemented with server-side choices for the logos …
@dansup do hashflags exist in Mastodon or is this a /s post?
