  I don't think we'll see a federated Clubhouse or TikTok anytime soon. The correlation between ease of content creation and the success of federated projects is clear, low-effort mediums like text or photos are much easier to participate in than others.

 @dansup I think a federated Clubhouse could be a really interesting project to work on, building on both WebRTC and ActivityPub, but I also worry that it would be the final tipping point in the collapse of civilisation as we know it. It's not listed on the instance picker, I wonder where they heard about it. I have already heard from some people that they have seen my acrylic paintings and have therefore registered on pixelfed.social

 @dansup @jaranta @mondstern @Scofield hahaha not sure if that was a joke but it is listed on fedi database as first choice so doesn't seem fair 😋 Ordered a computer desk for my office! Been working at the kitchen table for months and we have a few spare rooms so I figured its time. I'm really excited to have my own space, my partner is an interior designer and will not let me hang up my Frank Ocean posters in the living room so this is a good compromise 😅  I feel like spam has been increasing on the #fediverse as of recent. This is causing some backlogged queues as #pixelfed processes federated deletes in the same queue as other activities. Thinking of moving Deletes to a separate queue, should reduce the federation lag in larger :pixelfed: instances. #pixeldev  It's interesting to see different implementation approaches. I process Deletes, and most other activities, immediately. Though it would probably mean that a busy enough instance could run out of threads in the thread pool... Replaced the tempered glass screen protector on my phone and an hour later I dropped my phone and it broke 🤦♂️

Went out for supper last night, first time since the covid restrictions ended. It was amazing! Feels weird you can see peoples faces and smiles.  @dansup yeah today was first official day without the restrictions here in Calgary... not wearing a mask in public is going to feel like not wearing pants in public for awhile I think.

US judge rules Facebooks acquisition of Instagram did not violate anti-trust rules, Judge James E. Boasberg wrote that the FTC offered insufficient evidence for its central claim — that Facebook wields monopoly power. If I were to build a new #ActivityPub project today, it would be generic. Giving instance admins the ability to pick and choose what activities to support in a modular way would be awesome.

 Yes. Exactly this! It was exactly _right_ to get pixelfed up fast and working. That was most important to incubate fediverse but I think now it's time for generic servers (and diverse clients). About “modular”: Added a "Mark as Spammer" moderation tool to #Pixelfed. One click to remove spam and prevent it from appearing on public timelines! #pixeldev #ActivityPub #fediverse @dansup Specifically for pixelfed.social, do you see accounts that only post advertisement as 'excessive advertising' as prohibited by the community guidelines, or does it need to be 'spamming', like repeatedly posting the same text/image? @dansup Is this moderated somehow? Otherwise there might be a danger of possibly banning non-spam posts because of some dispute between fedizens. |
