I thought it would only take an hour or two at most to add those new graphs to #fediDB, but I ended up spending way more time on this.

There are 19+ million records that had to be sorted and organized for each project, so it will take some time to add support for other projects 😅

dansup

It will be limited to Pixelfed and Mastodon initially, and later other projects.

It takes quite a while to generate these stats, and is quite complicated so that is why it will be limited initially!

There are nearly 19 million records that need to be sorted, organized, mapped and reduced so bear with me 😅

Thomas Schmall

@dansup

I get an error from the page.

Promising stats though!

FediDB.org is undergoing some maintenance and will be unavailable until further notice #fediDB

The @pixelfed app post menu was redesigned and we added a “Why you’re seeing this post” button for additional context!

@dansup @pixelfed
honestly the pixelfed app is undergoing leaps by the day.
thanks for all your hard work! ❤️

@dansup i would love to see a configurable recommendation algorithm on the Fediverse 🔥

EVHaste

@dansup @pixelfed I dig the transparency. I was confused for a sec since the feeds are chronological, but I guess that isn’t a given these days

✨ Pixelfed + Post Edits, now available on the official mobile apps!

@dansup But I can't edit my posts in the app yet, right? At least I didn't find any button for that in the most recent version 🤔

Carl

@dansup I don't especially feel like playing with an APK. Any idea when the app will appear in the Android store?

dansup

Prototyped a new feature called "Channels" in the @pixelfed app

Hashtag follows and shares in home timeline are up next, a byproduct of this will be Push Notifications and much faster home feed pagination 😎 #pixelfed

Kudos to all the @pixelfed admins who updated to v0.11.8 that was released yesterday!

"I don't think Pixelfed needs to exist, use Mastodon"

Pixelfed provides a photo/video focused experience, and offers more features geared towards this (filters, collections, portfolios) than Mastodon does

You can use Mastodon or other platforms to share photos

When content is based around photos/videos, it's a much different experience

"I don't think TikTok or Instagram need to exist. Twitter supports photos & video"

@dansup none of this stuff needs to exist. But just like any artistic/itch to scratch endeavor, people do things for other reasons than a Maslowian "need"

jonny

@dansup wtf this is basically like saying "the fediverse doesn't need to exist" bc the uh whole point is that multiple systems can work together and experiment with different mediums without catastrophic social loss at every fork.

in addition to pixelfed being extremely different, freaking peertube is like a p2p webrtc app lol mastodon could never be used for distributing videos like that

dansup

Just now realize how huge #pixelfedApp text is on Android, the dynamic text logic clearly isn't the same between iOS and Android.

This will be fixed in the next release 😅

@dansup Thanks for not forgetting about the Android version :) Pixelfed gets better and better!

dansup

Just finished updating the last @pixelfed app screen before I prepare to release the new version!

I know it's just the About page, but I'm proud of the clever "hack" I used for the "Follow @pixelfed on Pixelfed, Mastodon" buttons that open those profiles in-app even if your instance doesn't know about them yet (by first searching, and using a special param to redirect to the profile after search results load) #pixelfedApp

Working with the @PixelDroid developer on new @pixelfed APIs to sync settings across mobile apps!

Looking forward to shipping this, and making Pixelfed better for all supported apps! #pixeldev

@dansup @PixelDroid @pixelfed are Stories in the API yet? and can other software make Stories that are compatible with Pixelfed?

dansup

If I had more time, I'd love to build a mobile app for Calckey, I think it would be fun

dragfyre

@dansup Someone figure out a way to clone him, quick!

KungFuDiscoMonkey

@dansup I feel you on that. So much I want to build but not enough time or energy to build everything 😅

NFG

@dansup - Now there's an app that might have a huge impact. I love miss/calckey, but the lack of a mobile app is a huge impediment to mass adoption.

Can't you just, you know, divide and multiply? ;)

dansup

Wow, 7455 accounts on pixelfed.social have selected at least 1 pronoun, that's roughly 10% of all users!

I will be updating this feature to remove the predefined list of pronouns to allow for freeform input!

github.com/pixelfed/pixelfed/b

wakest ⁂

@dansup Glad to hear about this change! This is something I requested when you first implemented the pronoun feature ages ago and I actually got in quite a scuffle over it my comments about it at the time.

I wasn't able to finish Post Edit support in the #pixelfedApp

Was hoping to ship this tonight, but it's 6am and I spent a lot of time refactoring the onboarding screens so it will take another day or two 😅

I'm happy with the progress I was able to make tonight though, onboarding is important and is now much better! #pixeldev

dansup

Thanks to everyone for the feedback on the @pixelfed app onboarding screens!

I'm going with this flow based on your feedback, and will leave the door open in terms of evolving the UX flow in the near future 😉

@dansup as I see migration mentioned in one of the screenshots: is there a how-to for that somewhere? I had a look last week and didn’t find any instructions on how to move between Pixelfed instances :)

unsolaci

@dansup Fantastic! ✨ Thank you for your work!

⚠️ Feedback wanted!

I'm working on improving the @pixelfed app onboarding, and want your feedback on the new sign up flow.

Does this do a good job at conveying the choice of communities to join while providing an easy default instance to join?

This isn't final, I'd like to get a general positive consensus on this before moving forward.

Boosts greatly appreciated!

Edit: Latest revision -> mastodon.social/@dansup/110439

@dansup @pixelfed Ya. Just signed up. Process was mostly smooth. Joining a community was straightforward and clear. Getting told my username was already in use, and then having to retype my password twice seems like unnecessary friction.

Jon

@dansup I like the revised version in general but on the scond screen you might want to give some positive reasons for looking at other communities. @pixelfed
