Based on a request, I'm going to ship a Photo reblogs only setting! #pixelfed Edit: This was shipped a few minutes later! https://github.com/pixelfed/pixelfed/pull/4566 @dansup FYI, I've found that the problem with "Load More" not working seems to be related to this? When I turn off Reblogs, it'll only load a couple posts in my home. Reblogs on, timeline seems to work. Thanks for that photo reblogs only setting! Edit: Fixed! I'm aware of a bug in reblog posts where likes aren't reactive, working on a fix!

Fascinating read! What happened to Vivaldi Social? | Thomas Pike’s other blog ✨ The fediDB mini-me https://activitypub.network Now with auto dark-mode and instance pages 🚀 Instance: https://activitypub.network/instance/mastodon.social Filters: https://activitypub.network/?software=kbin Search: https://activitypub.network/?q=mastodon Self-host: https://github.com/dansup/apnet#installation If the Admin Dispute Resolution idea is determined to be counter productive by @welshpixie, I will drop it! I don't want to cause more harm than good, and they brought up some good counter points, what they decide will be my final decision. Being a good leader of @pixelfed sometimes means giving control to someone else, and knowing when to. @dansup @welshpixie @pixelfed TBH I think a more worthwhile challenge to overcome may be trying to steer the fediverse to the user-centric path, rather than the instance-centric one it seems to have landed on. I can see the challenges, especially with a media heavy instance type like pixelfed, but more flexibility for users to move on from instances if they disagree with admin blocking choices, or just generally dislike the server, would be a more worthwhile goal. ✨ Synced Settings The official pixelfed mobile app will soon sync your in-app settings like dark mode, everytime you login! We're working with @PixelDroid to support it and other 3rd party apps so your settings can sync across all clients! Innovation is the game, @pixelfed is the name 😎 https://github.com/pixelfed/pixelfed/blob/dev/app/Services/Account/AccountAppSettingsService.php @dansup How many people are you? You implement like 10 new things per day, that is impossible I'm all for the option to display text-only posts or reblogs, but I have no intention of allowing users to create text-only posts in @pixelfed, to do so would go against our core mission of photo sharing. Groups will support text-only posts, but those won't appear on your profile or your followers feeds. Pixelfed will remain dedicated to photo/video sharing 📸 @dansup @pixelfed I admit it looks pretty good (you have a pretty good eye for these things, let me tell you), but I wouldn’t want text posts to get in the middle of my home feed, so… maybe put them in a different tab? like Instagram does on user profiles with all those clutter features, but actually useful I hope @pixelfed stories improves user retention in a healthy/organic way. Users will be able to disable the story carousel and we don't send push/email notifications. It's not so much about getting users addicted or FOMO, because you have to have friends/network in the first place, rather it's about providing a privacy and ethical alternative. We don't have to shove stories down your throat to increase CPM/ad clicks bcuz no ads, we can do this right! I see people question @pixelfed over @Mastodon, and that's fine (I ❤️ Mastodon, sent from Mastodon) However I think it's important to note that Pixelfed has Stories, Collections, Portfolios and much more! You can post pics on Twitter, but Flickr, 500px and Instagram still thrive! Portfolios: https://portfolio.pixelfed.social/dansup Collections: https://pixelfed.social/c/530360750719739665 Use whatever best fits you, and know that @pixelfed + @Mastodon work great together ✨

Pixelfed has never supported the `/peers` or blocked instance endpoints, so it's been difficult to know who they federate and don't with. This was intentional, but now I think we should make this info public by default (and allow you to hide, but I may limit pixelfed.org + mobile app server list to instances with public block/peer lists) I've never seen pixelfed.social on a blocklist, thank gosh, but yeah this info should be public I think I wanted to ship the ADR (Admin Dispute Resolution) mvp before announcing it, but in light of recent events, I figured now is more appropriate. From my observations, when an instance gets #fediblock'd and notices it, half of the time the admin of that instance takes action to fix that, but that isn't easily determinable. My goal with this is to provide @pixelfed admins a public service to dispute such events and make it easy for them to get unblocked when appropriate. Shipping soon! @pixelfed In terms of the actual service, I was thinking of using HTTP sigs to validate admin actions and allow them to comment/provide context during the process, and this would be publicly viewable via the website. Instance A: Blocks Instance B for federating with Instance C Instance B: Blocks Instance C and requests validation ADR service notifies Instance A that Instance B complied with their conditions Now to write some code to periodically export FediDB data to a sqlite database and push to S3 so https://activitypub.network and other #APnet can update! Is it just me or does fedidb.org load much faster than the-federation.info and fediverse.observer? I added links to all 3 on activitypub.network listings, https://activitypub.network/instance/mastodon.social ✨ Dark mode + instance pages have been added to https://activitypub.network! https://activitypub.network/instance/pixelfed.social #activityPub @dansup This is pretty slick, works great on my end. I love how simple it is! That being said, are there plans to put data aggregation in it or in a separate component? As I understand it just uses an export from fedidb right? ✨ Introducing https://activitypub.network, a minimal fediDB alternative ✅ Minimal javascript https://github.com/dansup/apnet Enjoy ❤️

@dansup I also don't understand why those other fedi DB sites needs to be so slow... You can have basic queries, simple caching. And the sites should be able to load within 0.5 second.

@dansup This sounds like Knuth designing TeX to use a 'scaled point' as his base linear unit with all measurements being integer multiples of 1 sp. 65536 sp = 1 pt. But 72.27 pt = 1 in = 25.4 mm. So 1 sp = (1000000*25.4/(72.27*65536)) nm = 5.362851 nm and all layout is done in those units. Exciting times! So when will you be announcing the first line of the new Pixelfed resolution monitors, @dansup ? After that we'll just need some way of finding beautiful images to look at on these monitors... maybe something decentralized?.... like a social media network, perhaps? |
@dansup you sound like a man who needs a purple lightsaber!
@dansup @pixelfed @Mastodon I remember when we didn't have "Dark Mode" as an option in IDEs... it's amazing we got any programming done at all back then. Although a lot of mine was done in emacs, on FreeBSD, with no window manager, so I guess that's kinda like dark mode :D
@dansup @pixelfed Could you add the choice « based on OS setting » in the mobile app? 🙏🏻
