@dansup @pixelfed It would be great if this also showed the reverse metric - how many other instances block this one. That way people could get some visibility into which instances are widely blocked. Of course it might be vulnerable being gamed, so perhaps something like "blocked by x top-100 servers" or "blocked by servers representing x% of fediverse users", that way manipulating the metric would require spoofing a large number of users which would be more obvious. It's been two months since I added the Threadiverse page to FediDB, considering removing it now (the current events section was meant to be temporary) π€ @dansup I think its still quite useful to see the threadiverse split out like that, is there any harm in keeping it?

@dansup news, calendar, photos maps, wallet, social, messages, bank, all will eventually come from a single company called "company" and the logo would be just a black money sign $ @dansup I prefer the first one's corona as its irregularities give it a softer, more light-like feel IMO. But I would suggest filling the P, either like the way the second alternative does, or with some solid color other than black. The black fill matching the black background suggests that the P is a cutout, in which case we should see the light below; or a different solid color so it no longer looks like a cutout. (But also it feels like a lot of black for an app which is about light.) @dansup I hate to say make the logo bigger, but make the logo bigger. It should feel balanced against the background β as is, it seems like thereβs more background/whitespace than logo. Looks like itβs politely shrinking away compared to other current iOS apps.

@dansup Wow. That's really jarring. The existing logo works because of the interplay between the colorful camera ring + how the negative space implies a playful, winking P. Here all the visual attention goes to how that glaring white circle contrasts against a harsh black background. Demotes what's left of the logo to an anonymous afterthought (resembling a distorted comma?) If you wanna lose the color for something starker, try aiming elsewhere for inspiration (Ansel Adams, Fan Ho, etc.) @dansup I definitely prefer the current one, as the colors shout out vibrancy & excitement. This new one here isβ¦flat. It does not peek my curiosity. However I have a suggestion: allow people to choose their icons. That is what @IceCubesApp does & it's awesome!

created a new @pixelfed related microservice tonight! cody (pixelfed media transcoder service) Basically, you will be able to run this on your app server, or on other remote servers, and multiple (load-balanced) instances It will take user uploaded media, convert to various formats, upload to S3 and return S3 urls Redundant S3 drivers, AVIF/HEIC/HEIF/JPEG-XL, vips and HLS are some of the highlights of this epic endeavor. MVP and more details soon! I finally got my iPad Pro back from my homescapes addicted mother, now I can test the iPad version of Pixelfed on a real device π Pixelfed federation is mature and fully implemented at this point, if you canβt interact with an instance itβs most likely because you were blocked or your instance blocked theirs, not because of some βfederation bugβ @dansup Hi Dan, do you have a recommendation for which Linux distribution works best currently with Pixelfed? @dansup It could be the hosting provider as well. I went through over a dozen hosts with #Pixelfed, but in the end, I went with Fedi Monster (https://fedi.monster). It's still not perfect, but they are the best that I have seen this far. @dansup Glad youβre enjoying it! It needs a few episodes to break away from the extreme silliness. Ana Ortiz is great in it, enjoy! Stories in @pixelfed also have some major side effects and features (some are WIP): - Story Views (tracks who viewed your Story, and federates) I get the excitement for @pixelfed Stories in our mobile app, and I can't wait to ship it, but I think you should know why it's been delayed so long. Basically Stories are super complex They are federated and on the webUI, meaning we have non-app clients to consider Supporting video editing across Android/iOS has proved challenging, recently overcame this I wanted to have push notifications ready for this, and they are what is now holding this up Will probably ship without push for now |
