Edit: Fixed! https://github.com/pixelfed/pixelfed/pull/4465 Two people have accused Pixelfed of going closed source because of a few missing js files and broken webpack config. I know it's not a good look, but was overlooked for so long because I ship compiled js so npm isn't a required dependency. Anyways, I'm going through and pushing the missing source files and then updating the webpack config so you can build the frontend ui properly again. Then I'll get back to Import from IG π @dansup quite ridiculous of them to assume bad faith from someone that has done so much for the fediverse... Sorry I didn't contradict them I am too averse to drama I guess :( And the claim sounded so ridiculous to me I was not sure what to do with it π @dansup Open source development is often a thankless job. I hope there are many people who tell you they appreciate your efforts. I should get https://fediverse.info translated, and update a few pages, one of these days π git clone dansup It takes a few minutes to cold boot the caches in https://fedidb.org π After I get some @pixelfed tasks shipped, I'll jump back onto FediDB to improve it! @dansup Is there a reason for me to want to be on Lemmy if I'm already on Universeodon? Same with Calckey and Friendica... @dansup One thing I noticed is that they were kind of huge... I'm not sure how they compare to something like GCC or whatever, as I've only done those updates as part of a system update ... and usually compiling GCC itself.

@dansup I thought I was hip to the current slang, but I guess not. WTF is a hashflag? Did you mean hashtag? That's what autocorrect thinks. Why do you have to buy one? @dansup Got multiple PHP installs? I've had it where one would be used in some cases, and a different one in other cases. 8.2.6 is getting used for command line, but is that what you're having for what I *think* is the web server? @dansup I'm not super familiar with PHP (the last time I touched it was shared hosting on PHP 5!) but Composer probably sees a system install and not Valet since Valet hasn't reapplied whatever variables Composer is checking for? Pixelfed admins will have several configuration options for the Import from Instagram feature! The defaults are pretty good IMO, let me know what you think @dansup permissions don't make sense... why would age or follower-count be a good discriminator? i can see the most common legitimate use-case being for brand new accounts that don't have any followers yet...

@dansup I'd recommend adding a "type DELETE to continue" input to that button, especially if this act is non-reversible Just wrapping up Import from Instagram in @pixelfed I wanted to support the ability to import more than once, and allow admins more control over this feature. Been testing against a few larger exports, and it should work for the majority of people, but that being said I will be prepared to ship bug fixes ASAP. Fedi admins: don't worry, imports will not be delivered to followers or clog your job queues!

I stopped using Instagram years ago - basically, when FB bought them. Moved to Flickr, have a pro account, and haven't looked back. Just wanted to mention that thanks to GDPR, Instagram has to provide a way to download your information which makes Import from Instagram possible. Pixelfed has no plans to scrape or otherwise violate the IG API terms of service, and thanks to GDPR, we don't have to!

@dansup is there a plant to support import of Instagram data? I recently exported my date and made a gallery for it on my website https://codercat.tk/gallery @dansup Itβll be interesting to see which U.S. politicians voting against these kinds of regulations will personally benefit from this and who, when the country finally gets on board with these kinds of regulations, will claim β against every shred of abundant media coverage β that theyβve been pushing for this kind of change for years. Because itβs gonna be more than a few.

@dansup Instagram is super toxic, more so than the wildfires in Canada. I'm glad people can move on from that terrible place without losing their pics and uploads. @dansup Oooh, brilliant. I don't care if my insta burns down, but there are so many serious and good photographers out there. This is an epic move. The top 6 fastest growing projects: 1) Mastodon We see you lemmy! Stats from https://fedidb.org @dansup This plot looks like a big drop, but actually describes settling down to a much higher level of activity pre Nov 2022 Added Funkwhale, Bonfire and kbin to FediDB! https://fedidb.org/software/kbin If I have time this weekend, I will add more! We have 114 other projects that need more information (or to be removed as they are duplicates, like Nextcloud treating every instance as a unique software π ) @dansup I just want to say you are doing a great job but also that I am a bit confused over the 'monthly active users' as i looks like it went from a lot of activity to zero... when it in fact are more than double it was before the peak. That view fools you a bit. |

@dansup
Wow!!! This changes everything! Congrats:)

@dansup Oooooook, so I have my IG data downloaded/zipped. The import option seems to work, but... there are 2 issues.
1) Pixelfed asks me to manually review posts I'd like to upload and select them (for over 10 years old account it seems to be kinda... hardcore let's say) - is there any way for the complete upload, without manual review?
2) the media/posts' list available to upload seems to be incomplete (I only see 2 posts from 2023, while I've checked in the "media" folder of the downloaded zip and it seems to be complete).
Any ideas?
