I'll make a dedicated channel when I wake up and use it to update progress and gather feedback!  @dansup ooooh, a group chat on a corporate owned messenger that lacks privacy for discussing a decentralized, privacy focused, encrypted messenger!  @dansup can you share the protocol specs ASAP? There are a lot of other people working on encrypted messaging in the fediverse. @dansup I generally don't prefer Discord for open source projects but this is too cool to pass up! Pixelfed does have a command to reclaim usernames that conflict with our list of ReservedUsernames, and I've had to use it a few times. I don't anticipate any future uses since our web/api routes are nailed down and this is the only reason we implemented this. https://github.com/pixelfed/pixelfed/blob/dev/app/Console/Commands/FixUsernames.php#L74-L79 Lmao I may have to pull an Elon and take over a pixelfed.social username for sup. Unless you guys can come up with a better suggestion?

 so my goal with sup. is to make a federated snapchat/whatsapp that is compatible with most platforms. This was originally going to be a Pixelfed specific Messenger-like app, but then it hit me - this is a perfect opportunity to create a sub project that could be eventually handed over to a trusted org.

@dansup checkout this abandoned matrix-spec-change for "encrypted stories". I believe it's implemented in #Fluffychat. Not sure why it was abandoned. I'd love if this was in all #matrix clients https://github.com/matrix-org/matrix-spec-proposals/pull/3588  @dansup Hey, just a honest question: are you trying to copy Mark Zuckerberg's activities (Mark bought Whatsapp, which is now owned by Meta, but Mark wasn't the one who made Whatsapp - he just bought it!) or are you trying to reverse them (MZ's activities) in a quite different way like what if Mark were the original creator of Whatsapp? Please describe your point. Thank you in advance. sup. is an open source encrypted fediverse instant messenger, similar to whatsapp, made by pixelfed. The beta will be launching later this month, and btw most fediverse accounts will work, not just Pixelfed π

 @dansup Would it be compatible with XMPP or Matrix protocols? It would be great if this messenger is then integrated into Mastodon, instead of the default private messages, which are unencrypted and in the format of regular posts, plain text... @dansup βStrike as in, Like it bit you, or itβs holding out for better working conditions? Pixelfed Stories are the most complicated production ActivityPub activity, and also the only one that uses bearcaps! With the AR filters extension, there are now half a dozen Story related activities/side effects. I'm working on the documentation and love the challenge, I brought Stories to the fediverse and I'm sure other platforms will follow π   The Augmented Reality filters will be similar to Snapchat filters, and use a similar format. I'm working on the filter AP extension so that DM recipients will be able to use the same filter that they used And being able to go live, that will be cray, esp with realtime notifications (which is a whole udder ting) to your followers Pixelfed Live + Stories will bring a whole new dimension to the fediverse, something that most people will actually use π I'm working on a new @pixelfed API schema that will be used in metrofive and our mobile apps. The MastoAPI that currently powers our webUI and mobile apps provides a solid and well-known interface, but we're already outgrowing it (we extended it, using the optional `_pe=1` param for pixelfed entities) The new schema is much more efficient for our use case, and we'll continue to support the MastoAPI too (with atleast 1 year notice if we deprecate it) Working on several @pixelfed webUI improvements! β¨ Inline modals (view posts/profiles without losing your feed position) Maybe it's a good thing that Apple expired my builds, it's been a while since I've worked on the webUI and it needs a lot more attention!
