 @dansup sorry youβre getting such hate! I wrote this after staying up all night to ship the hashtag follow app update and waking up 3 hours later to a few negative comments It made me reevaluate my priorities and want to focus on the aspects they brought up The eternal struggle, I feel guilty about working on PubKit, Sup, FediDB and other projects when people point out Pixelfed issues or feature requests, and when I do, I get a few comments about Sup, PubKit release dates and I'm doing my best to ship them The neg vibes don't help Pixelfed admins will be able to customize related hashtags too, as well as limit the algorithm to approved-only hashtags The new pixelfed app hashtag screen is a work of art β¨ - We use a clever (on-device) algorithm to de-duplicate similar posts (because ppl like sharing the same photo across multiple accounts) - We display a total count of hashtag posts that is now updated more frequently - You can now follow/unfollow hashtags on this screen - Browse up to 12 similar hashtags and a few more upcoming improvements π  @dansup I don't know how it works on PixelFed, but on Mastodon when I follow a hashtag I don't know if I am seeing a post because of my following the hashtag or if I am following the person/account or just the hashtag. It would be nice if next to every account name there was an indication if I was already following them. That way if a new account comes up under a hashtag follow, and I think, "I should follow them" I will know whether or not I actually already do so. π β¨ Related hashtags You will soon see a list of related hashtags when browsing tags on the #pixelfedApp!  @dansup Probably the wrong place to ask, but are there any plans to improve/simplify the process for adding new posts on the web app? I can design a workflow for this if that'd be helpful. Btw, you can view the hashtags you follow in Settings -> Relationships -> Hashtags https://pixelfed.social/settings/relationships/home?mode=hashtags&page=1 @dansup Unfollowing a hashtag from the webui doesn't seems to work on pixelfed.social. Its gone from the settings but my iOS app feed is still getting new content from the hashtag :/ Sigh, the hashtag follows & home feed refactor are working as expected with the exception of text-only followed hashtag posts being added This is a bug, and I will ship a fix tomorrow, while we do sometimes show text-only posts, when you follow a hashtag, you don't expect to see text-only posts. My apologies! β¨ pixelfed.social users: you may notice posts from users you don't follow in your home feed - hashtag follows are now live!  @dansup @pixelfed Still no idea about when you would like to make the mobile apps #opensource? π Once I have some time later this month, I want to work on a year in review page on https://fedidb.org to highlight all the amazing growth and progress in the fediverse! Almost done the @pixelfed home feed refactor I've been meaning to finish this for some time, and it will bring us up to par with Mastodon features like: π‘ Real-time streaming Shipping soon!  May I hope you plan to update the web client at some point? The apps don't technically exist yet (meaning, they aren't in the app stores that I know of). Hey @mikedev! Does Streams support nodeinfo or any custom instance info api endpoint? Iβd love to add Streams support to https://fedidb.org Keep up the amazing work! π I redesigned the @pixelfed app hashtag feed to use a 3 column grid and a new deduplication algorithm to remove similar posts* and I also added album and video support! Hashtags are being supercharged with follows, recommendations, and autocomplete suggestions β¨ * - Some ppl share the same post across multiple instances I'll update the F-Droid repo after I get some sleep! I have so many exciting things to share later this weekend π Pixelfed.social approaching 100K users π₯³ It may seem like a huge instance, but with 5K MAU, only 5% of users are active. I have a few plans to increase MAU and improve retention!

@dansup what do you mean by active users? Posting pictures only or just logging in counts too? @dansup reason i didnt use it much after signing up was it was kind of difficult to find people. same issue with masto i guess, but between the two, i just stuck to one platform as I can still follow everyone wherever. I wonder if the overlap of masto users with pixelfed is partly to blame for the lower MAU. (also congrats on the 100k!) I also shipped a new @pixelfed command to easily rewrite S3 media urls! This may be useful if you switch S3 buckets, or deploy a media proxy and need to update urls. |
