What’s the reason Pixelfed uses a centralized (non-free?) service to detect whether the instance can be used for the sign in with Mastodon feature?

@dansup new android version soon after that gets resolved? The current version has a bug where the location doesn't stick on posts. I have to edit the posts on the web version to add a location.
