@Mrfunkedude Pixelfed will soon support p2p for videos, similar to torrents but in the browser, admins will enjoy reduced CDN/origin use!

Mr. Funk E. Dude

@dansup Doesn’t that only work if multiple people are watching at the same time? Or am I thinking of something else? It’s late.

dansup

@Mrfunkedude Yes! This feature really shines for popular videos that have multiple simultaneous viewers, reducing the load/bandwidth on the origin.

This is one of our @NGIZero milestones, and has been in the works for a while!

@gytis @Mrfunkedude Yes! We are actually using the same library as PeerTube and are aiming for full compatibility with their implementation!

@dragfyre Eventually yes, we don't federate this yet, but that is on our roadmap!

@dansup
Wonderful!
Just a little curiosity: doesn't this feature overlap with @peertube functionality?

CryptGoat

@dansup Well, hopefully this behaviour can be disabled. Would even suggest to make this feature an opt-in for instances. A lot of folks certainly do not want to have their IP leak to the public. @Chocobozzz @NGIZero

@dansup @Chocobozzz @NGIZero This is awesome! Based on what I can gather from the repo, this is utilizing WebTorrent right? The more P2P the Fediverse gets, the more scalable it'll be!
