I had a lot of fun explaining Autospam, and how sometimes the "old, boring, resilient" methods and technology can endure the test of time and remain a good option 😎
I had a lot of fun explaining Autospam, and how sometimes the "old, boring, resilient" methods and technology can endure the test of time and remain a good option 😎 An interesting and detailed look into how Pixelfed uses a technique from the 90's to combat spam ⬇️ @dansup Yeah. this is shit: - no way to appeal Very efficient way to piss users of. I left Twitter because of the algorithm, just to be met with a worse algorithm. @dansup Bayesian anti-spam is an amazing tool. (Warning, I do this for a living.) Paul Graham was the first to successfully implement it. Others had come first but didn't include metadata (email headers). His followup work, Better Bayesian Filtering, talks about optimizing tokenization, which is definitely worth a look even 20y later, especially since there's less metadata in Fediverse than in email. (CRM114, however, is sadly not worth a look imho.) Wow, this Autospam blog post is turning out to be the longest yet and I'm really excited to release it! Edit: it's live https://pixelfed.blog/p/2023/feature/autospam-and-naive-bayes-the-grandfather-of-spam-filters-still-making-waves

@dansup Why don’t you try something dim? https://x.com/fonsmans/status/1569708218351247366?s=46&t=U3qCr5b4E68gM9eEURqkiA @dansup What if you invert the white part of the logo with the gradient part? Like have the main background white/black but have the center circle contain the colours? Working on a bug fix for the Account Migration feature, once this is out you will be able to move TO or FROM any supported server (Pixelfed, Mastodon, Firefish) @dansup post the images and then the poll in the next post referring to the previous post? ;) Edit: Thanks, no need to like or share anymore! I've made my decision, see my newest post H̶e̶l̶p̶ m̶e̶ p̶i̶c̶k̶ t̶h̶e̶ n̶e̶w̶ @̶p̶i̶x̶e̶l̶f̶e̶d̶ d̶e̶f̶a̶u̶l̶t̶ a̶p̶p̶ l̶o̶g̶o̶!̶ L̶i̶k̶e̶ =̶=̶ b̶l̶a̶c̶k̶ b̶a̶c̶k̶g̶r̶o̶u̶n̶d̶

@dansup The black background is better reproducing in black and white— and for people with #disabilities like colour blindness. 25.6K photos imported to https://pixelfed.social since the wired article hit 🚀 Working on some import improvements (IG broken text encoding, webp and videos, mass delete processing imports) FSEP looks interesting, and @pixelfed will do what we can to support it! Btw I wrote a mastodon to pixelfed blocklist converter, https://dansup.github.io/masto2pixel/ https://nivenly.org/blog/2023/08/10/federation-safety-enhancement-project-announcement/ Philomena Cunk on fediverse, exploring the wonders of the so called fediverse and interviewing developers and random users I would watch the heck out of that @dansup I don't see it. How do you ridicule the people on the fediverse without coming across as an entitled arsehole? Many of us are, what the masses in the broader society would call, damaged. There's very few opportunities to punch up rather than down, especially if you require mainstream appeal for your humour. “Yu can follo’ anyone on ta’ Fediverse in yust 5 eaasay clicks. It’s a wonda’ it didn’t caught on moa’ than it did.” I found a screenshot of G+ Circles circa 2011 on an old phone. You can see individual pixels, such a different time @dansup I still miss G+ and it's circles and community management - shot this video in Aug 2019 just before it shut down - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k2XwoZEzfjY. I remember sitting and refreshing the page until it died... 10K posts from Instagram have been imported to pixelfed.social in the past 12 hours 👀 The queue is processing recent imports (no backlogs), and has kept up wonderfully with the surge!

@dansup is it ever supposed to select the next 100? I don’t have a huge number to import but seems to be a little user intensive. I think it’s getting caught up because of videos? Otherwise fantastic, gj! @dansup set Pixelfed to import 55 posts about 4 hours ago. So there must be a backlog now?

I mean it looks complicated in the video because I moved so fast but it really is simple haha |
