 @pixelfed You might want to consider using Webtorrent or IPFS as your CDN since if something goes viral it won't result in overloading the server. Loops will launch with a chronological only feed, then a Followers feed and finally the For You feed. Before we can serve personalized feeds, we need to build and label the video and topic graphs. We will be A/B testing the For You page during the next few weeks. We just finished adding the notification feature to Loops, along with Push Notification and filtering. We hope you're ready π β¨ Improved Loops Share menu Now with a new "Not Interested" button to help train the For You feed along with Bookmark and Report features!   @dansup you might need to add a warning about the fact that you are using the Bookmark feature as a signal for training anything. There have been lots of articles mentioning how the bookmark and like features "on the fediverse" are private and dont do any training of algorithms. Regardless if thats true it is expected by many  @dansup Good features, though maybe βShareβ isnβt the right name for that drawer since only one action in it does that. Maybe βActionsβ, or no name at all. What icon opens it?

 @dansup As this made the on boarding of Threads made so good, don't forget the "Follow if they join" button there. If I sign up as the first person and see 200 Mastodon "friends" that aren't there yet, I want to "follow" them. I don't want 200 notifications with Β»Person joined, follow?Β«. They should be followed by joining already, if I chose so. So please "copy the homework" completely or even improve it a bit. @dansup whatever you guys do, make it convenient and appealing to a broad audience but don't make it addictive. An important thing to clarify on the newly formed Mastodon 501(c)(3) entity: it's not here to make or influence product decisions. It has no legal ability to enforce any such changes. Primary operations will remain led by the Germany-based Mastodon gGmbH, and this wonβt change. The focus of the U.S entity is to provide another vehicle for donations and other forms of support. The Board has no legal "control" beyond this. I've seen people mention that the Loops push notifications are dark patterns, and that is not my intention at all I'm not encrypting the notifications and they can be collected by various parties (NSA, Apple, Google) so I didn't want to include any more metadata than I needed to Hope you understand!

Loop video urls will be super short! ex: loops.video/v/5jM_jMRGuYbLc Notice no username? Maybe some version down the road can improve on itβ¦ Loops is open source, and as such, I think it's a bit naive to spread rumors about data privacy when I haven't even pushed all the code yet. I'm not some start up, I don't give a heck about your data, I just like building cool things for cool people That being said, I know I don't always make the right decisions, and look forward to community feedback so we can find the right solutions, together! I'm not a regular mom, I'm a cool mom π

@dansup you mentioned earlier it has an algorithm, would it make it addictive? Iβm a little bit worried about that as Iβm running away of that type of apps   @dansup data and code are two very different things. I don't think any open source project posts their user data with their source code. Data is normally stored on a server or end user device, and the source code merely powers the interface.  Loops is a new platform for sharing short videos, and it's open source + federated using #ActivityPub We're really excited to share this sneak peek that showcases the new onboarding flow and discovery features (Connect Mastodon) and look forward to the upcoming beta release! Loops has a simple For You algorithm to show relevant interests and topics, it will get better over time like my Autospam algorithm! The way it works is pretty clever, using a combination of on-device machine learning and nlp we use plenty of βsignalsβ to classify content and associate it accordingly. This is more than just short videos, helping people discover relevant content is crucial to our mission and I look forward to building the best fediverse For You feed π  @dansup is it like a semantic database that links to specific posts? @thisismissem You often make perfect sense, and I often feel a bit guilty going on about quoted posts. But only because I saw us in a race to capture journalists. That ship has sailed. But we can now pivot and let Threads lure them in, then contribute new tools to support them and everyone else.
