Love it. It is always great to see work of such quality and care.

@mntmn @holo_memory @theawesomerandomness Is this right, that the left mouse button is not the leftmost button?

ChiefGyk3D

@mntmn @holo_memory @theawesomerandomness see this is why I love your company. Everything is open, now I really want to buy the handbook separately just to support your teams efforts.

lots of reform parts and expansions now available at crowd supply: crowdsupply.com/mnt/reform incl very good deals on a311d processor upgrade (rcm4-bpi) and standalone keyboard

@mntmn

My next laptop will be definitely a MNT Reform. I love the idea, the hackability, that's it's open... and the fact that I can have one with a trackball!

QA testing MNT Reform Kintex-7 modules with soft RISC-V core (LiteX/VexRiscV) and our eDP encoder board

minute

what's missing to make this already pretty cool setup even cooler:
- fund a real batch (assembled at a pcb house) so we can get the price way down
- test/integrate naxriscv (out-of-order 64 bit core)
- implement a scaler in the gateware to 1/2 or 1/4 the resolution on demand to make up for 100Mhz speed

Alexis

@mntmn The Kintex-7 module is listed as incompatible with the Pocket Reform on your website, right? Is that for physical reasons, or is it something that could potentially be solved in gateware?

half-life (xash3d fwgs) works fine on the MNT Pocket Reform actually

lina :bisexual_flag:

@mntmn around what frame rate it does run?
Soo nice to see pocket reform to play this amazing game >.<

@mntmn That's an interesting device. (Why didn't I know of it yet?)

@mntmn Awesome! Any updates on the possibility of the Next? (the thinner thing you teased a few weeks ago)

ratfactor

@mntmn Great update. Like other backers, I'm happy about the headphone jack. A 2024 delivery is just fine because this has a real potential to be a true "lifetime" machine! 😃

@mntmn amazing work, Lukas

i hope that you will also turn to mobile phones
at some point.
this is where the pain is the greatest

@mntmn great talk I really enjoyed it.

i'm thrilled about @system76 working on a real open hardware motherboard for their project virgo, especially using KiCAD. cool!

Gamey :thisisfine:

@mntmn @system76 I think that's basically unpresidented from a Laptop manufacturer and a big step for open source in general, what I love most about it all is that they uploaded the design to Github under a license comparable to the GPL!

florian

@mntmn @system76 such a good company. I’ve been subscribed to their newsletter for years even though I’ve never owned one of their products. I hope to get to use their new WM when it’s released.

minute

we updated the MNT Reform Documentation page with more links, incl. electronics sources for the subprojects and pre-built firmware binaries, as well as alternative operating systems: mntre.com/docs-reform.html

do you miss any additional information?

cryptix

@mntmn this is Reform-adjacent, I guess. I was looking at the CM4 and LS1028A recently but couldn’t make heads or tails of the HDMI situation.

@mntmn

Kann ich das #MNT #PocketReform an einen Ort in Deutschland auch direkt aus Berlin liefern lassen, oder ist der "Umweg" über Crowd Supply obligatorisch?

minute

today i learned about the tool `b4` which makes it really easy to download patch series from lore.kernel.org

minute

today i will attempt to upgrade this 8GB LS1028A module to 16GB by hand. wish me luck

minute

people working on FOSS: did you see this and did you apply (grants)? sovereigntechfund.de/en/challe

because of all our hardware projects i'm already spread too thin to contribute in a bigger way to sw projects that i think matter a lot, like linux arm kernel and drivers, mesa, wlroots, wayfire, sway, gnome, pipewire, creative apps like gimp, inkscape, audio and video editors... but i would love to see the relevant people getting this cash and pushing FOSS desktops forward

MNT Reform 2023 refresh:
— 2x-3x performance with A311D module
— better mechanical Keyboard V3
— better Motherboard V2.5
— better battery protection
— steel Port Covers
still Open Hardware!

@mntmn <3 your work, hope one day to get one. thanks!

max_power

@mntmn Could you sell the just the Motherboard as well?

Stephan

@mntmn That’s great news. Are you planning to sell an “upgrade kit” for first generation reform owners also?

MNT Rack Reform BMC is coming together: boot and console UART access works via web, now just missing some buttons for power cycling and need to explore STM32MP1's USB gadget mode to expose disk images to the motherboard via USB.

minute

MNT Rack Reform rough prototyping. the unpopulated volume can be used for a GPU or disks and/or UPS batteries and/or fan.
