Gregory's ServerSitting in a cafe in #Casablanca, #Morocco this late morning. Most places are not on Google Maps so I thought to check and see, and yes, it is not listed. So I added it to @openstreetmap via @organicmaps.

@savera this is not true. The term "Moor" is an exonym used by Christians to mean "not Christian/dark skinned people who have different culture" https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Moors @savera I am not sure what your posting of this link means. This persons article seems all over the place. The term Moor (or Maur or Mauryas) is used all over the world and in different contexts means very different things. The idea that all the uses are connected to a single tribe is just very easily disproven.  @liaizon you may enjoy https://streetcomplete.app/! it gives you small quests to complete osm data at your current location, prompting for things like wheelchair accessibility, outdoor amenities and many more. @computersandblues I have been meaning to give it a go for ages, this may be the perfect excuse @computersandblues oh so I figured out why I hadnt actually used it yet. It is only for Android and I am still stuck in iOS land. I actually have two old Android phones with me but they are both weird models that are carrier locked so I can't use them with a sim until I figure out how to jailbreak them. I realized I had already downloaded a iOS app called GoMap!! that supports the StreetCompete quests so was just checking that out. @computersandblues But sadly the quests are mostly just designed to add information to already existing places and the issue here is most places dont have any "place" added at all. So the quests don't do much good here. I would love to see some sort of gamification for adding brad new places on the map that might not be on ANY map what so ever Having trouble transcribing the #Arabic name of the cafe, if someone cares to help update: فضاء سلا according to @WahbAllat @liaizon @WahbAllat فضاء means space (as in, outer space). I don't recognize the word سلا though. It might be specific to their dialect, or just might be a person's name? ok went to get a second coffee Roi Dubois @IronCurtain translation isnt really appropriate for a place name tho. Should really be transliterated into Moroccan Arabic @IronCurtain like if someone came to Casablanca and then asked for King of the Forest cafe there is no way for them to find it. But if they spoke "Dew Boys Coffee" they could probably find it eventually I passed by it on my walk back my riad and worked up the nerve to just ask them what the name of the cafe is in Arabi and they replied "باموس قهوة" and then said in Spanish they called "Vamos Coffee" and I said shukran and walked away. About a block past they yelled for me to come back and demanded they take a picture of me in front of the cafe. |
@openstreetmap @organicmaps @liaizon I just learned the moors are the same tribe as the More’s of the west and Maur’s of Punjab. They are Sythian Jats who fled an invasion. Some headed west and others south.
