Removed a toot on the whole "youtubers being paid" thing that a publisher started recently.

I was simply coming at it from a stance of: people doing dedicated work should be paid. But my own way of explaining gave the wrong idea.

I don't ever think it's right for a "review" of any kind to be paid (and I've never and will never do so).

The problem really is that YouTube revenue sucks quite often, especially for lesser-known titles.

Like, I've done a video on a random AAA game I didn't care much about to show it off for a few minutes: massive clicks and hits.

Indie game I'm overly passionate about: YouTube hasn't seen much of it, so it buries it and people click even less.

@gamingonlinux I donโ€™t see an issue with doing it as long as it is clearly stated and displayed. Also they should not take on ones they arenโ€™t willing to endorse without the payment. Digital Foundry had one on Immortals of Aveum looking at the Unreal5 technology being used last week. I thought it was well done.

@gamingonlinux I don't necessarily disagree with the idea people should be paid. I think there's definitely a job market for reviewers. I also think they should be paid, but not by the company making the product. Regulating this type of thing is important.

@gamingonlinux I think someone is feeling lonely after the release of BG3.

I played the beta demo of DiabloIV just before it launched.... meh - is my one word review.

Vitex

@gamingonlinux IDK. Free ๐Ÿ’ฉ, is still ๐Ÿ’ฉ. I mean yeah, D3 campaing was a bit meeeh, but rifting was very fun. To me at least. In D4 the campaing is less meh but not that much better, but the post-game content just puts me to sleep. ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™‚๏ธ Maybe it's just me

It's hilarious to still see takes like this - Windows Central

"Don't buy a Steam Deck, if you want a gaming handheld buy an ROG Ally โ€” here's why"

There's so many problems with that article it's just funny, and sad.

While yes, Windows 11 out of the box can do some things SteamOS can't - entirely fair.

It makes out like SteamOS can't do things a PC can. Like word processing, web browsing, installing other stores etc.

@gamingonlinux Windows fans be like: "How can you not love & use an operating system that takes away all control of your hardware, has built-in spyware, whose company has been convicted several times by anti-trust laws for anti-competitive practices, and is just slower than other systems?" :blobcatgiggle:

@gamingonlinux heh I did early development of a mobile game on the deck ๐Ÿ˜ - not the best target for unreal engine editing but it was servicable!

I used it for a long time as a general desktop as well, USBC monitor with a hub on it basically just means it's a perfect little machine

@gamingonlinux I'm a little confused here. The Talos Principle 2 is on top of my wishlist, and I almost instantly bought it when the -51% notification popped up. But that game was never a 57.98โ‚ฌ title to begin with, was it?

Edit: must be a bug (or a very questionable marketing trick). In a bundle with TTP1, which is 95% off, you could indeed state that the total discount is 51%... but you'd still pay full price for TTP2

Screenshot of a Steam wishlist item for The Talos Principle 2. Discount is said to be -51% coming from 57.98โ‚ฌ
