@gamingonlinux "Free for non-commercial use" is not free. At best It's a marketing tactic. At worst It's a trap to trick users into making something, then to be able to hold user's creative work hostage until they hand over cash. It's scummy. Look for an actually free open source alternative. There are some really good ones. @kevin3kon Well, technically in a way you are right. But the initial cost of entry is still free, so it's still accurate. While I would naturally love more people to use the likes of Godot, this is feels like a silly argument overall on a big improvement to a popular game engine. @gamingonlinux I'm not arguing with you; you're just reporting it. It would be different if this was a game where using/playing the game is the entire purpose. It is fundamentally different with productivity software, where the purpose is to make something for others to see or use. Maybe some people like just trying it out for themselves, but that isn't the primary purpose. And what happens if just trying it evolves into making something actually great they want to share? It's held hostage. @gamingonlinux sounds like a very good move. People can pay for it once they know they like it and have done something worth shipping. |
@gamingonlinux I think it is a good move but unfortunately the old one time licenses owners are being left out of any kind of discount
