@gamingonlinux in all honesty, the DMCA needs a provision to allow for things like this, and to get rid of the vagueness for fair use, and to provide better protection for content creation.
Hopeful that happens without greedy companies either poisoning it or tanking it completely.

Mattias Cibien

@gamingonlinux DMCA takedown has been revoked yesterday as it seems that it was made by a troll and not GSC. Maybe they will do some proper licensing this time

@gamingonlinux funny I just started replaying this game to :gargamel:

Jon

@gamingonlinux I was just trying to decide if I was going to play this or one of the many D&D old school CRPGs. I think I'll finally play Pillars of Eternity! I didn't realize Avowed was going to share a world with the Pillars games until a few days ago and I'm pretty excited for Avowed.

MSI usually makes great hardware, but that round D-Pad is a huge turn off... not a fan on intel either. I'll stick to my Steam Deck.

Timothy Green

@gamingonlinux Intel is garbage. Would've been better with AMD.

Eduardo (Raspi) Asenjo :linux:

@gamingonlinux one more to the e-waste list.... I love what Steam has done with Steam Deck, but all these copy/paste items trying to get a piece of the cake of the handheld boom is just exhausting

Not saying they're crap, but I don't think they will have the long term support and reparability that SD offers

@gamingonlinux I believe thatโ€™s a whole useless effort that canonical put onto snaps, they should embrace flatpak and support the project because thatโ€™s what the community got their eyes on and in my opinion is the better option

lebout2canap โš

@gamingonlinux The sandbox of a flatpak is the same on all distributions, unlike a snapยน. In addition, the snapcraft.io backend is proprietary (unlike Flathub), so this format will never be adopted by all distributions. If they really want to be cross-platform, they should start by working on these two points.

@gamingonlinux
apt-get install firefox is the main reason for me for stay away from ubuntu and never, ever use their server flavour.

They should keep both things, native applications and snap clearly separated instead of silently inject snap packages in apt.

Thats simply evil.

@gamingonlinux It's also impossible to burn down OpenAI's headquarters without committing arson

@gamingonlinux sounds like they dont want to hire people to sanitize the data they are using. Putting the cart before the job stealing horse lol

@gamingonlinux Licensing switcheroo sure has a way to... make customers drop you faster than the speed of light.

Timothy Green

@gamingonlinux No surprise really, considering the move they made recently about app installs.

@gamingonlinux what? Unity fucking it up? No way, this has never happened, this week.

@gamingonlinux A corporation celebrating capitalism with special offers has so many layers of irony that I don't even know how to continue

Ben Foote

@gamingonlinux I'm torn because I love games that are in this style, but also have grown to hate capitalism. Guess I'll have to buy all these then...

Piko Starsider :verified_paw:

@gamingonlinux I hope that I live to see the day when "capitalism" is just a genre of video games and a relic of the past.

@gamingonlinux Or just a "controller" mode for the steam deck! All input is sent via Bluetooth or USB-C to the connected device!

Zakarya :verified_multi:

@gamingonlinux I don't have a steam deck yet but I would totally buy this first

Anyway back to the usual content, I just really cannot stand AI writing and will call out anyone using it and not disclosing it ๐Ÿ‘

Liam @ GamingOnLinux ๐Ÿง๐ŸŽฎ

I'm pretty outspoken against AI writing and I think it's lazy as hell to use it to make articles. Other creators reached out recently to note that "SteamDeckGaming" has been using it.

I asked them directly, and they admitted to it.

As an independent creator I think it's incredibly lazy, and ridiculous to try and pass it off as your own work. It's literally crushing the whole idea of any kind of actual journalism to use AI to write the articles.

@gamingonlinux I think itโ€™s a great tool, but shouldnโ€™t be relied upon as the actual author.
Personally I utilize co-pilot as a thesaurus ๐Ÿ˜‚

Timothy Green

@gamingonlinux Good idea: Using AI to build you a template for a story, then expanding on that story with your own style of writing and adding more scenes, characters, and events.

Bad idea: Using AI to tell the whole story. Even worse on news articles, where human elements (including fact-checking) are expected.

Thijzer

@gamingonlinux

To me AI is a tool, that could help you realize your ideas and creations. The key is that it should assist me not overrule or replace me. A tool that helps speed up the process, and lets us focus on other things that improves the net result. People who however let an AI loose on a prompt without any personal effort are flat out using the tool wrong.

@gamingonlinux 5600GT?

I've just sold my 5600G - that's Vega-7. What's the T stand for, RDNA? Are they backporting RDNA to AM4?

(I'm happy with my new 7840HS with Radeon 780M.)

@gamingonlinux "For any normal consumer, their event was a hard boring watch with business people patting each-other on the back about AI advancements"

Ha! Excellent commentary!

@gamingonlinux Happy thereโ€™s a Display Port on this one, the one I have is just HDMI 2.0 only. So definitely looking to grab one of these!

Steve Zakulec

@gamingonlinux Can you upgrade dock firmware from the Deck or Linux now?

BlueCoffee

@gamingonlinux I will never understand why people choose steam over gog. If steam close the account goodbye games.

Timothy Green

@gamingonlinux Steam Deck is better than Nintendo Switch. It's more than opinion; it's fact.

Serg

@gamingonlinux any thoughts on when it might actually reach the mainstream? Really want this fix for joy-cons.. Like do you know how long it has taken in the past for example?
