> How often do you need to turn it off? That’s not an excuse to do a lousy job. You only see packaging box once and throw it away, but it’s still designed nicely. > Macs are supposed to be left turned on With amount of bugs modern Apple produces it’s becoming wishful thinking I bought an M1 Mac mini a month ago, left it on overnight, in the morning it was borderline usable. Even typing was lagging Somehow it ate up all the memory and was swapping like crazy for an animated background video @nikitonsky I’ve had one of those for over a year and it’s always running out of memory and forcing a restart if you leave it on. There’s also a weird power issue with accessories where it’ll claim anything you plug in is “drawing too much power” and is shut off without notice. Apple software quality went off a cliff a few years ago. I wouldn't call it a "lousy job" when it's intentionally designed towards that goal - especially when prioritising form factor, it's the least important element and then only one that can go there. My mileage is vastly different and I'm constantly impressed by the performance and efficiency of my m1 13" air. Hitting several months of uptime is very common for me and I'm a tmux-session-hoarder and have too many apps running at all times. Sam Altman side by side with Aaron Swartz. I can't stop thinking about it. One was prosecuted by the US for downloading copyrighted data from 1 source for noble purposes, and committed suicide to avoid prison. The other is widely celebrated for doing this on a much larger scale*. Edited: *(and not for noble purposes)

@veroandi Their story is emblematic of who our society rewards and who it punishes. Is our society deranged? ✨A new article: (Yet another) Introduction to quaternions! I'm a mathematician, so my desires are unconventional and my perspective is skewed, but I hope it will be useful at least in some way 😅 I've also added a useful cheatsheet in the end 🥳 https://lisyarus.github.io/blog/posts/introduction-to-quaternions.html

@lisyarus Under "Quaternions in Clifford (aka geometric) algebra" near the end, there's a problem with your definition of i, j, and k. Notice that ij ≠ k, but instead ij = −k, so these are not actually isomorphic to the quaternions. You need to negate all three bivectors so that i = −e₂₃, j = −e₃₁, and k = −e₁₂. @lisyarus There's also a typo in the "Quaternions in Clifford (aka geometric) algebra" section where you accidentally say e₁e₃ = −e₃e₂. There's another typo in the first line of the "Dot product via conjugation" section where the closing parenthesis is missing for (w,x,y,z). @lisyarus I am not a statistically significant sample, but I really enjoyed this! 😃 It is (obviously) the kind of topic one could write a book on, so in a blog post choices need to be made on what to include and what to skip. But overall it feels like a nice stepping stone for anyone who would like to learn about quaternions! Большая часть проголосовала за то, что они не конфигурировали никогда их, но при этом очень заметная часть проголосовавших явно выставляла размер таба и были и табы в 2 пробела, и в 4 пробела и даже в 8 пробелов someone finally posted a statement referring to actual legal acts instead of vibes https://lore.kernel.org/all/7ee74c1b5b589619a13c6318c9fbd0d6ac7c334a.camel@HansenPartnership.com/ когда-нибудь я перейду на Linux, установлю вот эту тему https://github.com/grassmunk/Chicago95 и буду самым счастливым человеком

@CorioPsicologia Fortunately, my VHS tapes are still working and I am still buying even more of them for cheaper than ever before :3 Night Train Map in Europe (2024), https://back-on-track.eu/night-train-map/. This is an interactive map: each line is clickable and brings information about all the stops, schedules, frequency and the company operating this line. That’s pure beauty. Combined with InterRail, it’s so much travel freedom and opportunities in Europe!

@hywan nice map! Can't wait for the Amsterdam Barcelona connection! @hywan since I moved to southern Italy from Holland I keep noticing how many maps of Europe stop somewhere above Rome Profile picture update posts are tricky tho. It would make sense from the UX standpoint to sync comments between the post and its corresponding photo, so each comment will actually be two comment objects linked together... Yikes. I just realized this absolute banger of a UI, being in Russian, might have escaped wider audiences, so I translated it for you.
