My Garmin Instinct 2S Solar arrived, and it looks and feels really solid. First impression: there's nothing this thing can't do. π On todays session of #bullshitbingo: - Align on something Ran my first continuous 5k today. My personal best for this distance was apparently 30'34 min back in 2017. No clue how I managed to do that, but my goal is to beat 30 minutes this year. https://strava.app.link/pPDRBD7pzJb Now enjoying a Pita in the park. Today's run. My heart rate was pretty stable today, compared to two days ago. @garritfra Perfect review mate! Thanks. Garmin looks interesting as well. Looking forward to the review. @garritfra I didn't know you got one of the smart models, those are meh imo so yeah. And if you already have your phone while running around why not just use that :blobcatderpy:

@theresnotime The fun fact about "serverless" computing is that if you go to the Wikipedia page for it, it says right in the first paragraph that the term is a misnomer. After barely finishing that 2k yesterday, I wouldn't have thought that I'd be able to top it up to 5k just one day later. This felt great!π₯³ For some reason the Strava data is quite a bit off. Maybe my Casio watch isn't very accurate. π€ Finally getting back into #running, and I just finished my first 2k. It ain't much, but it's honest work. π₯³ Still dealing with an aching ankle after each run, but I'm optimistic that that will go away after some time. Also, although I'm trying to run as slow as I can, my pace is still quite fast, which wears me out quickly. I'm not out of breath, but my heart rate rarely drops below 140 BPM. I hope that'll improve over time. @garritfra Life without a car is amazing! I managed to live my life like that for 35 years. Currently, my little 7 moths old girl is the only reason we have one. Good move Garrit! @garritfra I feel this is wonderful and more should do this if one can. This is making me think I should do a post about my own experience without a car. https://www.industrialempathy.com/posts/design-docs-at-google/ > One of the key elements of Google's software engineering culture is the use of design docs for defining software designs. These are relatively informal documents that the primary author or authors of a software system or application create before they embark on the coding project. A few days ago I noticed that my Pixel 7 sometimes automatically dims the screen in bright sunlight. What's weird is that the settings say the brightness is all the way up and battery saver and "extra dark" are disabled, but I can clearly see the screen dimming from one second to the next. Anyone else experiencing this? @garritfra Iβve noticed this happen on my iPhone. I *think* itβs a method for managing the heat of the device. If it gets too warm, it will lower brightness to compensate. @garritfra That would be normal or even early for me. π Then again, it's my choice to work a lot with Europeans. #TIL that Amazon's "Just Walk Out" stores were a hoax. The "AI" in the system was actually a horde of cheap workers acting as remote cashiers. @garritfra yes. And the same is true for "self driving taxis". People in India remote-controlling on average 5 taxis to get them out of pickles. Without a US drivers license, obviously. @garritfra Oh, TIL. I shopped at one in London and was a bit amazed about how well it was working. |
@garritfra I had a Garmin Forerunner back in the day and it was fantastic. In fact, I think I still have it in the drawer at home.
@garritfra These things are beasts! You'll get bored of it before it ever breaks down.
