a broken clock is right twice a day.

but if we remove the hour pointer, it's right once per hour.

if we also remove the minute pointer, it's right once per minute.

if we remove the seconds pointer, it's always right.

at this point you don't really need the clock face, so you can just look at a wall and say that, it's always right.

people getting hacked by their text editor πŸ˜‚

@neauoire once i saw an android calculator flashing video ad

Floating Point Error

@neauoire so my choice of ed as the next programming system was rightβ€”it's me who's hacking the editor, not vice versa 😈

Philippa Markovics

@neauoire I bet this is about a VS Code thing πŸ˜‰

Some ice stranded on land, as well as a tiny glimpse of Baird Glacier.
Best viewed with binoculars :P...

some ice stranded on land, up a glaciated arm. Baird Glacier has receded from the water, but part of it is visible, between the mountains.
R E K

It is crazy to think of just how far glaciers used to extend in Southeast Alaska. There is a reason that the entrance to each glacier arm is bordered by a bar(a shallow rock and gravel bank). The bar marks the point of greatest advance of the glaciers during the last ice age.

The glaciers pushed gravel and boulders, then receded, leaving the bar behind.

If you boost posts that are longer than 7 times the height of my screen, I'm unfollowing your boosts.

@neauoire what if I'm boosting a blog post I wrote that federates to Mastodon? πŸ˜‰

Alaska is one of the most breathtaking places we had the chance of sailing through. It's tough at times and cold most of the time, but it's also a massive sailing playground filled with countless birds, sealions, otters and whales as only company. It's also extremely quiet, the only sound the break the silence besides birds chirping, and whales coming up for air, is the sound of the waterfalls on the high cliffs.

@neauoire Alaska in the spring and summer may be the most beautiful place on earth. If it weren't so much danged work to get there, I'd go every year.

@neauoire you have a ways to go before this, but can you take a pic of Lituya bay as you pass? It’s the site of the highest witnessed wave in modern times

Found a way to write live demos for some pages on my wiki from the comfort of a catlang.

@neauoire imagine patching this somehow to orca, like an electrode in here could broadcast a signal to an orca cell

also, Wireworld represeeeeeeent 🀩

Valden

@neauoire on my machine the live demo is not smooth at all on firefox (it seems to hang for 1s all the time then quickly catching up), while working perfectly fine under chrome :(
I tried completely restarting firefox with no effect.

Got a good reminder of why it's so important to have emergency kits / supplies in a car yesterday. The main reason isn't really to get yourself out of trouble but to be able to help others.

Devine Lu Linvega

@ritualdust it's kind of nuts how little preparedness is teached in Canada, we need something like the Bosai preparedness rhino to teach kids about what to put in their ditchbag : )

Writing some stupid javascript now, but hopefully in a way that makes it so I never have to write javascript again. :eccehomo:

This week in absolutely cursed programming, I rewrote my copy/paste server based on the idea of a tuplespace, so every uxn program snarfing a snippet of text is pushing it in the tuple server. I can finally share "types" of snippets between programs and differentiate between copy/pasting pixels, text or other binary data. I can even consume snippets, and use it as a kind of history.

The things one does at anchor without internet connectivity.

Capital

@neauoire you have made you own uxn intranet.

gustav

@neauoire Copy-paste server as in actual networking involved or server as in code library? :0

@neauoire I am apparently in an age based on pumps and water pipes and turbines. Can't figure out the puzzles.

A path between trees, made of large concrete blocks (banks of the Garonne in Toulouse)
Some industrial pipes and valves, painted in bright colors, in a park. Behind is a building made of shiny sheet metal with a pattern of small square holes

(AZF industrial accident memorial, Toulouse)
A small pedestrian bridge crossing above a forest path. On the bridge there are vertical metal bars reaching 2-3 meters high

(Garonne river banks, Toulouse)

hi everyone! i've just spent a bit of time porting arvelie and neralie by @neauoire to C and POSIX compliant shell, mostly for use in my own projects. i wanted to share them here, because i'm sure there's some folks that would like to use these time systems for things, but find themselves relying on clock.xxiivv.com for the current time. i can't promise they're perfect implementations, but they're working for me!

I love seeing the flag of Alaska on people's lawn, it's such a pretty flag.

The state flag of Alaska displays eight gold stars, forming the Big Dipper and Polaris, on a dark blue field. The Big Dipper is an asterism in the constellation Ursa Major, which symbolizes a bear, indigenous to Alaska. As depicted on the flag, its stars can be used as a guide by the novice to locate Polaris and determine true north.

Odo Tournesol

@neauoire It's a good one.

Minnesota just updated their state flag and it's pretty good as well.

@rek periodically see a behemoth docked way too near my cities center, docking there is pointless besides advertising their cruises ofc (literally nothing other than cruises dock there), brings with em a load of air pollution, too
