Rejoining civilization in a few days so I need a working pair of shoes.

It blows my mind that the thread used for consumer shoes is so shitty. Fixed those up with UV resistant waxed sail thread, should outlive the rest of the shoe.

There's a backing to the seem that needs fixing, but to make an invisible fix I'd need to take the whole shoe apart, this thrift store pair was not designed for disassembly..

PsySal

@neauoire Last pair of shoes I bought fell apart in 3 months. I then crazy glued them everywhere they looked like they are even /thinking/ of coming apart, and they have lasted 3 years. I have done this a few times now!

@neauoire sadly markets prefer cheap over durable. this is why companies cut costs and use weak materials/construction. i wish we could go back to the "buy once buy for life" mindset.

Was watching an interview with Brutalismus 3000 and they mention Amyl & The Sniffers, saying how much they love their energy. And ye that checks out

ірина

@neauoire i went a whole month and maybe then some cycling around town listening solely to Amyl & The Sniffers. Love them!

Alina 0xFF

@neauoire oh I love that energy! It reminds me of this which I'm absolutely in love with youtube.com/watch?v=iIVgu9aKTt

Luke Sutton

@neauoire love em. Listening to them helps me get in touch with my bogan roots.

To credit the author of the little diskette drawing in one of my slides that says "obsolescence is scary", who is Jenny Mitcham, Head of Good Practice and Standards at Digital Preservation Coalition - I'm trying to find the original tweet from 2018 via nitter because obviously Digital Preservation people only use twitter or fucking linkedin.

nonmateria

@neauoire you're lucky it wasn't earlier as twitter from 2011 to 2014 is already gone because they needed disk space

Spending four days on a train from Seattle to Saint-Louis, will bring two paperbacks along for some late night reading as we zip across Nebraska.

@neauoire The Crying of Lot 49, that takes me back. I remember reading it, very long ago, but I have forgotten most of the plot.

xzixiy

@neauoire I hope you enjoy Lot 49, it’s the only Pynchon I’ve finished 😅

It saddens me that the Neon Kiosk has so little activity, come on, add your site, write something for the kiosk stand.

@neauoire sad, it was hella active not too long ago! I'll work on not being part of the problem by updating my kiosk blog 😁

DHeadshot's Alt

@neauoire "needs to follow the HTML Journal format" - so existing blogs probably don't count 😢. Ironic that Smol.Pub (made by the same creator I believe?) doesn't count either...

First time connecting to the grid in a while, we're docked and have access to a fresh water tap, so we're giving Pino a deep clean. There's a thick layer of grime that accumulated over the deck from stepping on and off from the boat all summer. It feels so nice to see the boat shine again.

Heading back to civilization tomorrow after spending 4 months in the woods, I haven't seen my wallet in 4 months, where is it :|

The only legal characters in a BANCStar program are the digits 0 through 9, comma, minus sign, and carriage return. Blank lines are not allowed. If a "." appears anywhere in the file, the compiler will crash.

@neauoire @d6
Reading the forum, "the goal is to sequence notes, and not to produce/synthesize real time audio". Is it still the case? If so, why?

Annette

@neauoire @d6 This is all very advanced for me. My problem with the audio system is just that there seems no way to cut off a playing sound without a loud pop, because it creates an unavoidable discontinuity. Audio people tell me the way to avoid this is to stop as the wave crosses zero, but that's way more precision than is possible with the audio device spec. Would this proposal give some way to avoid these pops?

It's obviously too late now for Strange Loop, but I've just realized that I could load uxn programs directly into Adelie slideshows.. I could have made interactive slides!!

Jonas

@neauoire
This is awesome! Is it also possible to launch a Adelie slide from Potato? I didn't find a way

Dane Henson

@neauoire interactive Adelie slideshows? That’s bonkers!!! this feels similar to when I realized that a uxn rom could probably fit in an ax.25 info frame (ham radio packet protocol). Not that I’m ever going to do anything with that knowledge.

In regards to the Unity engine, I'm seeing a lot of warning against the dangers of centralization and single point of failure, coming from the *checks notes* mastodon.social instance

@neauoire 😅 as someone who's self-hosted dns, email, www, etc. for about 20 years it's wild how the two public moods seem to be (a) why would you ever bother doing this? and (b) how could anyone have predicted this centralized thing would go bad?

Now that the first pass of proof-reading for Wiktopher is behind us, we have begun to look into cleaning up some of the worlding aspects of the book, which include congames, conlangs and even conrecipes. One of Lupin's dialects can be whistled, and as to encode the various poems of the story into pitches, we decided to pick the #Solresol constructed language as a suitable candidate.

Not previously knowing the language, I have spent the past few days neck-deep in digital archeology excavating some of the language's vanishing documents from the Wayback Machine and transcribing them in a format that will allow me to translate the texts. While I'm at it, I'm planning on translating Thousand Rooms(Famimi Remisolla) as practice.

@neauoire I'm so excited for Wiktopher @rek !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
