@Dio9sys @sterophonick To put their "breakthroughs" into perspetcive: https://sam-jaques.appspot.com/quantum_landscape_2023 We are in the FINAL TWELVE DAYS to submit your proposal for the 2025 Open Hardware Summit in Edinburgh!! We are desperate to see your cool ideas please submit: https://2025.oshwa.org/ @kfdm @teleclimber @aljazmerzen @dahukanna @scottjenson yeah Cloudron is Docker based too, and the individual Cloudron app packages they create are all themselves #opensource https://git.cloudron.io/apps it's just the core @cloudron platform itself that is only #sourceavailable @josef @teleclimber @aljazmerzen @dahukanna @scottjenson Oh wow! I've seen some of these on my own, but had not seen a list collected like that. Home Assistant OS also has this in a way with the installable addons. https://github.com/home-assistant/operating-system @kfdm @teleclimber @aljazmerzen @dahukanna @scottjenson yeah Cloudron is Docker based too, and the individual Cloudron app packages they create are all themselves #opensource https://git.cloudron.io/apps it's just the core @cloudron platform itself that is only #sourceavailable @dahukanna @scottjenson For what it's worth, this is why I decided early on that one principle of https://dropserver.org is that you'd be able to take your stuff and move it easily. Should there be different ways of hosting Dropserver apps in the future (ha) then I want to establish very early that downloading a copy of your data and importing that into a different instance "should just work" (as far as it's possible.) This is the kind of thing you have to establish early.

Wow, leaving X11 as they should, Wayland is the future :D wait, that's not the X they meant right? :D @neuSoM @univienna @tuberlin @KIT_Karlsruhe @UniOldenburg @unibremen @freieuniversitaet @UniUlm @HTW_Berlin @uni_paderborn Here are some Dutch university accounts: ICT cooperations for universities: The GNU project has released version 1.0.0 of their systemd alternative named "Shepherd"... @thunderbird And I've been using TB since the beginning, since V1! @thunderbird Congratulations from a long-term user! I am using Thunderbird already for more than 20 years, already when it was the mail module of Netscape Communicator. @thunderbird I remember when I first tried Thunderbird back in the 2000's as a teenager. I couldn't figure out how to use it at all. Then a decade later I gave it another go alongside my return to Firefox, and maybe I got smarter or something, because it was really no trouble at all. I think Thunderbird is great software, and I donate because I love using it. The transformation of K-9 to Thunderbird Android has been well done. Thank you to everyone who works on Thunderbird.

The PeerTube mobile app is out!

Congratulations, @peertube ! I'm really heartened by the commitment made to understand and plan to avoid the abuses that the online video industry has subjected people. This calls back our humanity and recognises we are people, not biomatter laying in gel-filled pods. Haven't looked at it in a while. https://eci.ec.europa.eu/045/public/#/screen/home/allcountries Whoa, we got through the threshold in 7 countries. Now all we need is just raw numbers. EVERYONE CHAAAARGE!!! …that the system is rebooted as often as really necessary but not more than that, in order to maximize uptime, and not annoy the user needlessly. After all, rebooting means disruption, and unavailability of the system's services. With systemd v257 the systemd-logind service gained a new centralized knob for designating a specific "maintenance time" for systems via the new DesignatedMaintenanceTime= setting in logind.conf. It takes a calendar time expression (in the same format… …the other options, as software run this way must be ready to run as PID 1 (i.e. reap reparented children and so on). Note that in the Docker world the understanding that PID namespacing is semantically much more special than the others is not really commonplace (yeah, thinking about semantics wasn't their strength), hence I guess a lot of software that has been changed to deal with Docker's idiosyncrasies, probably is fine PrivatePIDs=, but I am nonetheless pretty sure PrivatProc=… …is almost always he better way to sandbox regular services than PrivatePIDs=. (PrivateProc= hides processes, but doesn't renumber them or introduce a new PID 1 with its special semantics. PrivatePIDs= does otoh renumbers and does synthesize a new PID 1). We run this security-sensitive service but only keep the logs for 7 days😔 Obviously hindsight is 20/20, but a good example on why at companies I always want as much log retention as possible. @stacksmashing I like to link people this if they think it's too difficult to brute-force a short hash prefix lol https://github.com/zegl/extremely-linear @stacksmashing @Lyude isn't finding truncated SHA-256 hash collisions literally how bitcoin mining works TIL "podman build" command can use C++ preprocessor to preprocess Dockerfile templates.
