That feeling when the meeting has run over its allotted time, you want to meet your food delivery person before they ring the doorbell (which makes the dogs bark and wakes your housemates up), but there's a manager attending who therefore won't stop yammering on

@soatok Oy. My current record is a meeting running a full hour over and it started after five in the first place. =\

I'm spectacularly bad at self-promotion, so here's some things I wrote over the years that: a) People tell me they found useful b) Come up surprisingly often in technical forums c) Friends and colleagues don't realize I already wrote about (hence the bad at self-promotion part).

Database cryptography. This covers a lot of ground, but mostly culminates in guidance for application-layer client-side encryption when working with databases, encrypted search, etc. https://soatok.blog/2023/03/01/database-cryptography-fur-the-rest-of-us/

@soatok I'm not wanting to start an argument, and I hate to tell you this, but Matrix style E2EE has already landed in the Mastodon codebase, it's just disabled for now: https://github.com/mastodon/mastodon/pull/13820 (I guess it was out of scope for v4.0.0)

@soatok feels like when someone proposes something to do encryption. Always that one comment further down that suggests just linking in libgpg2. |
@soatok
I'm glad someone is taking a shot at making an open version of discord, but I also am very aware that what they have made is incredibly resource heavy.
I have my doubts as well, but I'm still in their corner if they can get it right.
@soatok@furry.engineer
whats your opinion on session?
@soatok they can't even get *unencrypted* chat working right, much less anything involving cryptography
