PSA: If you're reading and parsing /proc/cpuinfo for anything, you should probably stop.

The CPU information you're probably looking for is available in structured form in /sys/devices/system/cpu, no horrible text parsing required. And unlike /proc/cpuinfo, the /sys hierarchy is standardized across architectures (as much as is practical). In particular, you will not find CPU topology info in /proc/cpuinfo on non-x86 architectures.

Signed, ARM64 users who keep seeing things like "1 cpu, 1 core, 8 threads" in software written by x86 users (I'm looking at you, GeekBench).

Doing some software archaeology with @jimmac today, looking at webOS on the Touchpad and Palm Pre.

It's very cool to see how far ahead of its time this was, and also how many elements from it survived in GNOME in some form! And of course, the multitasking is still unmatched by any more recent mobile platform :)

So, somebody wrote a program that converts, in-place, an #NTFS volume into #btrfs.

It even keeps an image of the original NTFS volume as a file in the resulting btrfs volume. This can be used to undo the conversion or deleted to free up space and make the conversion permanent.

That is absolutely wild.

@noboilerplate I think it made sense for them to focus on mimicking twitter to get as many X leavers as possible but now with this many users it will be hard to focus on federation instead of establishing a reliable income stream.

In January 2022 I discovered that #Microsoft #Office365 Message #Encryption (OME) utilized Electronic Codebook (ECB) mode of operation. I reported this, got paid a $5000 bounty and then things fell dead silent. By autumn I tried to follow up on this, and after numerous attempts to inquire about the schedule for a fix I was told that no fix was planned.

Luckily, Microsoft seems to have changed their mind about this, and the fix was applied in late 2023, after all:

На табло обменных пунктов и на сайтах банков предложено указывать «обменный курс за часть единицы инвалюты». К примеру, можно отображать, сколько рублей стоят 90 американских центов, отметив такой курс звёздочкой и по желанию разместив соответствующее пояснение.

Размер дробной части, взятой для отображения курса, предполагается корректировать в соответствии со «справедливым или прогнозируемым» курсом. По мнению экспертов, такой приём позволит «стабилизирует общественное мнение» и предотвратит панические очереди в обменниках.

У айтишников с марта 2025 не будет брони от мобилизации. Первые новости по этой теме были ещё в субботу, но я каким-то образом их не заметил. Офигеть они конечно это втихую сделали. И опять все "правила" в каких-то тайных приказах, так что никто ничего точно сказать не может.

@lyyn ее по-моему и до этого не особо было. там надо было в очень специальной конторе работать.

вся эта история какая то мутная. они в принципе и без этих изменений могут мобилизовать кого и сколько захотят. и правила могут поменять в одну ночь. зачем это все за 4 месяца публичить - неясно.

но конечно может кому то кто еще не решился свалить поможет решиться.
