Computer Weekly highlights the irony of UK OSA and EU Chat Control pushing for E2EE backdoors... ...while the US urges people into E2EE apps because #SaltTyphoon has exploited backdoors to compromise the US' entire public telephone network. Mastodon isn't perfect. But the fact a social network exists that is completely free to use has no venture capital investors has no shareholders to answer to has no growth targets with a web interface with zero tracking cookies and mobile apps with zero trackers at all with ten thousand server administrators who donate their time for user safety is - in my opinion - mindbogglingly cool, given the state of the world we live in. Not everything has to be shit. People make things better.

 @EUCommission That is wonderful to see. I wonder if there's anything you could do regarding TikTok's harmful challenges, like the recent "Superman Challenge", in which someone throws themselves with one hand forward into the arms of others? There have been at least dozens of cases here in Romania where children and teens have had to go to the hospital with severe injuries due to this dumb challenge. @EUCommission Great news, hopefully there will also be ramifications for possible non-compliance to that order. For commenters who didn't read the linked page: the Commission received specific information regarding TikTok (most likely from an EU state's police or intelligence agency). Meta, Google and X were also asked to explain their operations regarding the election. So moz://a is now I³ :blobcatwut:
