One of the best compliments I get for Cloud Island is people telling me that this is social media they want to use. How awesome is that? How amazing? It's so good. It remains amazing that you’re all here with me on this group of websites that all talk to each other @aurynn kubernetes is like a sledgehammer. Great when you need a sledgehammer. But *beyond overkill* for like 95% of projects lol The more people we can get using adblockers, the better the internet will be for everyone. Do your part: help get adblockers installed today. If people say that they rely on advertising money, feel free to remind them that you don’t owe them a working business model people who are opining that Facebook joining the fedi is okay didn't live through Google killing XMPP. Or anything Microsoft ever did.

If you're attending NDA'd meetings with a malevolent advertising company, maybe consider that you are not on the side of the users. “How will fedi survive now that whatever new techbro bullshit has come out” It survives because of a bunch of admins want it to survive and will keep on wanting it to survive. Hope that helps. 🙂

@aurynn I don’t really care about merging with the twitter users at this point—people who use mastodon know what they want, people who still use twitter know what they want, and I feel either won’t change too much. I’ve learned my lesson at this point. Stay clear of profit-driven social networks. Oh just learned that the Mammoth app on iOS for Mastodon is VC-backed. So, yeah, don't use that one. "We have VC funding" is like the best reason to not use something, when you're on the fediverse If there's any marginalised people in AU/NZ that need a new home in the wake of the mastodon.lol shutdown, sing out, Cloud Island would be happy to host you. If you can please boost this. 🙂 I should launch a journalism-but-no-transphobia instance And I am the arbiter of what is transphobia like you, as a journalist, would be able to be certain that the instance isn't going to get defederated because your admins decide to let transphobia stand that's a value-add right? Me: I'm totally going to make an aaS Mastodon product! My chronic illness and fatigue: We are going to get in your way every step of the day until you consider giving up because you just can't make progress on any of the things you know are important Me: But ... I ... but this is important ... Chronic illness and fatigue: Yeah well fuck you girl You are the loving, hoping, caring, wishing, living, breathing dreams of dead stars. Dream well for them. oh no is "admins can read your DMs" becoming a thing again I can barely manage to read my own DMs, you think I'm going to go and write software so I can read yours? "I had hoped for more tolerance of bigotry on the fediverse!" exclaims local bigot, surprised at the resistance to bigotry on the fediverse @aurynn funny things happen when your moderation decisions are not based on revenue.... @aurynn "Back in my day, everyone worked together to harass minorities" local fascist [Name Withheld] recalled. "These days you can't even call a single person a [ REDACTED ] without everyone ganging up on you! Can you imagine how horrible that feels? Having all these folks chase you off of Mastodon? What a terrible place" he continues, without a shred of self awarness. In about 30 minutes, RNZ will be doing a piece about Mastodon. You can stream it from https://www.rnz.co.nz, if you're so inclined. No one said I can't announce it, so, I'm going to be on this show 😄

I feel really bad for all the small admins getting crushed by the sudden explosion of Mastodon interest By the gods do not join community instances without giving those poor admins hundreds of thousands of dollars, that is just cruel If you're looking at Sidekiq scaling issues, this blog post talks about how you should scale by more Sidekiq processes, not more threads: the TL;DR is that Sidekiq doesn't scale well beyond 25 threads, so you want more Sidekiq processes running about 25 threads. 12
