pretty funny watching white fedi’s response to black twitter embracing bluesky after being burned by activitypub’s broken moderation and threat model 🙃 look i’m with you on bluesky being bad. but there are lessons to be learned and postmortems to be had. and anyone claiming there isn’t is in denial. you all were told by me and others all the way back in the early days of ActivityPub that we needed to take the abuse and trust problems seriously. To be clear, no, Mastodon gGmbH cannot just "be sold to a VC or an equity fund." By the way, anyone claiming things get "sold to VCs" probably doesn't actually know what they are talking about. The venture market definitely does not work that way. how are we feeling about tomorrow’s launch attempt? Anonymous poll

Feel free to jump in! seeing some “lol fuck section 230” posts around here, which is pretty ironic considering section 230 is essential for the fediverse to exist at all i had a strange dream where i was a gordon ramsay type person who came in and fixed failing tech startups to be absolutely clear, i have added (and am adding more) features to my instance because my community asked for them. we do not care about the tacit approval of communities outside our own. if you want to have real conversations, great, but if you just want to bark orders at us at the threat of defederation, you're better off just hitting that defederate button now, because we are entirely disinterested in playing with white bullies. see i think it’s pretty wild that there is a holiday that celebrates white people dunning-kruegering themselves into starvation and then getting bailed out. it’s like, the most white thing ever really. and then there’s a religious angle to it?! as if God made the Wampanoags bail them out? this is what your email inbox looks like when a shitty website reinstates a neofascist if you want a basic understanding of how the fediverse network actually operates, https://ariadne.space/2019/07/13/federation-what-flows-where-and-why/ is still very relevant

@ariadne I feel sorry for people on visa who had no choice but to stay. It’s gonna be some horrible days for them. @ariadne Sooo the birdsite doesn't have the entire SRE team staffed mere days ahead of a sports event that usually causes a massive increase of traffic? Talk about perfect timing.

@ariadne ok this one is gonna be complicated for the average joe to be honest @ariadne it's very true that authentification of digital identity shouldn't be a feature of a centralized or distributed social network, where we end up being stuck with "login with Google/Facebook/mastodon.social" ; also we may need several verifiable digital identities not necessarily linked to our legal/public/national identity, that should only be an option. In that sense, the Blockchain could be a good solution to authentication both for digital (anonymous or not) ID. matrix's third room stuff looks cute, though given the rest of matrix, probably is lacking some highly important moderation feature that will make the whole thing a waste of time @ariadne I'm still amazed that ChanServ does a better job enabling people to manage and moderate communities than matrix (afaik, anyway) interesting that naia, the admin of howlr.me (which you should block), is going after the media figurehead of the movement trying to shut down kiwifarms. it's as if she were a kiwifarms user or something. https://twitter.com/fr_brennan/status/1567550170488782851 #noxp because i am posting this from a fediverse safety POV @ariadne what? Keffals is being criticized for very real things. Like letting her followers dogpile black trans people, and calling a black trans woman a tumor that needs to be excised. |
@ariadne We're still suffering from Clinton's policies and Gingrich's Contract With America.
