We're excited to share a preview of a Framework Laptop with a new CPU architecture today, and it's not the one you probably think it is. DeepComputing is creating the first partner-developed Mainboard, and it's powered by a RISC-V processor!
With the ongoing #COVID19 pandemic and #H5N1 deadly Bird Flu on the rise, let's review what we have learned over the past 4 years.
You are on your own.
No one is coming to save you.
No one but your friends and family will care whether you die or become permanently disabled.
Your employer cares more about their bottom line than your life.
Use your brain and the best tools at your disposal (masks, distancing, good ventilation, etc.)
Science deniers, anti-maskers, and conspiracy theorists will scream like toddlers and should be ignored.
Government and business in your country will benefit long-term from data obfuscation and risk denial (ignoring the problem means they don't have to spend money on it).
Assume the worst and act accordingly.
Don't give in to peer pressure - your life is on the line.
Arm yourself with the most recent scientific data and stand ready to combat ignorance when it rears its ugly head.
@shansterable nope. Most friends and family also didnt give a shit, but this was no surprise because they didnt give a shit about much else either and it was only a matter of time before I kicked them all to the curb. As a leftist (a leftist, not a liberal lol) I had already beefed with most of these people for decades, and COVID was the nail in the coffin.
Now Ive made a new family, and am working on new friend groups, and so far so good. We understand science and history, we are medical and tech professionals, and we are NOT giving up on protecting one another.
We will mask for the rest of our lives, and should have been masking long before COVID. Why did americans and westerners never try to stop vulnerable people from catching every nasty thing that came around seasonally? Why were we not masking before, and why was there racism aimed at Asian travelers who would mask seasonally?

@shansterable what I really need to know is, in the event of another global pandemic, what measures have been put in place to stop smug, out of touch celebrities singing 'Imagine' at us?
- Humans will continue exploiting animals for momentary pleasure until it wipes us and every other species off the face of this planet due to zoonotic disease, biodiversity collapse, or the climate crisis.
I'll ask the question here, since it seems like a good place for dashcam advice: How quickly is this going to drain my car battery, left plugged in? (This is for hardwiring an always-on dashcam.)

Hello Fediverse! It's time for a new instance #introduction, having recently migrated to BSD.Cafe :freebsd_logo: from hachyderm.io.
The neurosurgeons said I wouldn't wake up from the coma, but they were wrong.
Then they said I'd never walk or talk again, but they were wrong.
I never expected to reach forty, and so often now I wonder, "how long will the 🧠 tumor let me live?"
Professionally, I'm a Principal Systems Architect focused on performance engineering for "global edge compute" workloads. This year marks two ticks from having worked for a quarter-century in the tech industry. 💾 :sparc64: 🥰
Personally, my interests range from backcountry telemark skiing and long-range marksmanship in the wilderness, to berries and bunnies and everything in-between as long as it's cute and pink and sweet and made of hearts! 💗
There have been efforts to replace Japan's writing system with something "simpler." Indeed, one group fought for over a hundred years to replace kanji and the kana syllabaries with Latin characters. Here's why they ultimately threw in the towel.
I wouldn't necessarily go with romaji (and apparently no one else either), but dumping kanji would certainly simplify things a heck of a lot!
If Japan went with a just a kana based system it would be so, so much easier to learn. Switching to single blocks for the compound syllables could even retain a lot of compactness.
The added complexity is glaring when you compare it to learning Korean.
